First: Yes, it is possible to catch stuff from a straw, as you've been told, and some of it can be bad stuff. If it worries you, call her pediatrician and make an appointment to get her seen in the office.
However: Before you do that, read this, especially the line about the shared drink:

The point? Kids are pretty resilient. They bounce back from things adults don't, at least not as easily. They need our eyes and attention constantly, but if you turn your head and miss something, don't beat yourself up over it, just handle it and move on.
Consider it a story you can tell future boyfriends.
