Might sound crazy, and this is just me, but if I lived in an area where flooding was common, I’d maybe, I dunno, have a **** ton of supplies and materials stockpiled to protect myself as much as possible. Again, that’s just me.
How do you prepare for a storm surge that'll reach your ceiling?

But this is Orlando. They're far enough inland that they don't usually get the worst of it. But, yeah...
Right. They don’t get hit as hard as the coasts, but they still get some ridiculous rainfall. I’m just saying, if it was me, and I lived somewhere where an overflowing stream or lake was a threat (which there’s a million of those in Orlando) I’d have material on hand so I didn’t have to stand in line to get what I needed.

My wife's parents are on the south east side of Bradenton. There's been a mandatory evacuation for anyone with a mobil home or prefab type home. Theirs doesn't fit that designation so currently they plan to ride it out and see what happens. My wife and one of her sisters are begging them to leave but they're being stubborn. They are saying that gas has become hard to find with several stations sold out, bottles water is pretty much non existent in stores too. They have to make their own decisions but I pray they come out alright.
My sister in law and her family are more inland but still in direct path in the Sebring area. They took are staying but that's in part because they both work for the local power company and he's a lineman.
Hopefully the hurricane will lose strength in the next day or so

"The forecast calls for Milton to continue to experience gradual weakening on approach to Florida because of increasing wind shear and dry air, but it should remain a major hurricane through landfall sometime later Wednesday into early Thursday.

It's important to note that this possible weakening won't reduce the impacts we see from Milton, including storm surge. Milton could also grow larger on approach to Florida, allowing its wind, storm surge and rainfall impacts to sprawl out across a bigger area."
