I bought an old single shot 12ga that's covered in brittle camo tape. Tape is peeling back, dried out to the point of being brittle.
I am not familiar with any procedure to remove it.
How's the best way to get this tape and any residue off of the gun?

I'd remove what tape I could physically. i.e. pull off what you can.

Then, I'd hit it with Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber. Wear gloves if you're holding onto the gun. Along with removing tape and gunk, It will remove your fingerprints if you get careless.

Oil it up when you're through. Should be good to go.

I got some of the tape off with WD-40 where it was peeling the worst.
The gun has a synthetic fore grip and stock.
This old camo tape is tough stuff.
There's got to be a better way. I don't like to work.

Did you let the WD-40 soak for awhile? Like 20 or 30 minutes? If so, then I would give the goo gone a try, but it too needs to soak.
I don't think either of these products will harm the gun. I know Lowe's used to sell a large bottle of it.

I soaked it down for about 6 hours. The remaining tape is pretty "water proof" and it's resisting the chemicals to remove it.
I also tried the heat gun to no avail.
I'll have to get some of that Goo stuff this week end.
I'm still open to the magic fix for this.
Thanks guys. I hope someone has been through this camo tape removal that works easily.

Throw it in a fire, fire solves everything.

I've never used goo gone as I've always had access to more commercial grade stuff. Beyond trying a 3M adhesive remover, I don't know what to tell you.

I use something called UN-DU with fantastic results. It is similar to Goo gone but seems to be more specifically designed for things like adhesives and stickers. I always have a bottle or two on hand as my two year old loves to put stickers on anything and everything.

That looks like handy stuff. I'll buy some of that just to have around.
