I know what the guy meant though. If I wasn't familiar with how Straight 8 sights work I would have thought wrong.

I've had a PT1911 Stainless since 2008. I guess the older models had Heinie straight-8 sights like mine, and the most recent ones have 3 dot Nowaks. Great gun with around 4000 rounds thru the gun. The only problems I've ever had with this gun are: (1) the plunger tube started to work loose. but I restaked it. (2) It will not feed JHP ammo from CMC .45 magazines. But feeds everything from cheap .45 magazines I bought from DPMS. Otherwise, no problems with this gun. And I would not hesitate to buy another.

Don't discount the Rock Island 1911's. I have a compact tactical and it's great. It's officer sized and fits all 1911 parts that I have purchased.

Springfield Armory manufactures a very good Mil Spec/GI series 1911, that I've found new for $400.

    Its a good, solid 1911.

I have a Colt Commander. Very smooth shot and no problems to report.
As for the cost.. it was very cheap for me... a b-day present from my brothers.

So best way to get a cheap(er) 1911 is to have great family to buy one for you.. :D
