I go to WalMart and pick up some stuff quite often. Mainly because there is an older guy there that I really enjoy talking to and the stuff is cheap. I get keeping the LGSs around but I do that by buying firearms from them. Sometimes you find a good price on some ammo but I rarely find what I want and need at a good price in a LGS. Just as I posted yesterday I was at Bradis and bought 2 firearms and a box of .22 Colibri for my soon to be born daughter's rifle. But when I looked the price for the 440 round spam cans of 7.62x54 I almost fainted. I ordered 3 tins from ammunition to go for almost half what it would have cost at the store. When I added the shipping onto the 3 tins it was still cheaper. But I won't stop going to Bradis because of this they treat me well and I love going there because they are ALL truly good people and they have to make a living too. I did notice that Meijer is sometimes cheaper than WalMart on some ammo but it is a rare occassion.

Wow, you found 9mm at Walmart? Someone keeps buying it out around here. Apparently they buy it out at Meijer too. But no, I've never had that crazy of a problem at Walmart or any other store. That's crazy.

Had trouble with an older guy at the old Walmart in Lebanon long before the limits they imposed a few years ago. He decided that I was trying to purchase too much ammunition because I didn't "need that much" and I could "start a war with all that." It was not a satisfying transaction.

I do not think Wally makes employees pass an IQ test to work there. I have bought some ammo from the Brownsburgh store when my buddy called and said they had 5.56 LAP in the ammo cans cheap. He knows those guys as he is our advance scout for such things.

    Just around the corner.
A buddy and I went to Walmart to buy some ammo to shoot the next day. They employee who Walmart deemed worthy to carry the gun/ammo case key said she hadn't been trained to use the register in sporting goods yet and that she had to walk the ammo up to the the registers in the front.

Upon arriving at the registers up front, my buddy and I were then forced to wait 10-15 minutes while the managers were trying to find out if Walmart had a limit on the amount of ammo someone could buy. The funny thing is, we weren't even buying that much.:):

    Ammo I bought:
    1x 333rd of .22
    1x 50rd of .45
    1x 50rd of .40
    2x 50rd of 9mm
    4x 20rd of .223

    Ammo my buddy bought:
    1x 20rd of 9mm (JHP)
    4x 50rd of 9mm

Of course the managers couldn't find anything in Da Rulez to prevent us from buying the ammo, but it was quite annoying. Anyone else ever encounter that problem at Walmart? :dunno:
WITH ALL THE IDIOTS SHOOTING PEOPLE NOW DAYS, LOOK FOR AMMO RESTRICTIONS COMING OUR WAY. Sorry for caps.

I would have had to ask if that was just his opinion or some kind of store policy. If he indicated store policy, I would have asked to see it in writing. If he would have replied that it was his opinion, I would have asked him to keep it to himself.

Of course, the last time I scooped up a bunch of 9mm at Dick's Sporting Goods at a good sale price, the lady assisting me behind the ammo case asked if "I was going hunting or something".

I've out walked of Walmart before....the ding-bat behind the register couldn't figure out how to ring up a brief-case and the price was on it! Nice to know someone will give
the mentally disadvantaged a job...15 minutes is too long to wait at a register. Especially
if you're the only one there.

I went to Walmart for ammo back when they had the shortage and you could never find ammo. I would go at all times of the day and night, even making special trips 25 minutes away at 11:00 P.M. just to see if they had any.

Finally one day they had some. I tried to buy 6-8 boxes (before they had a limit) and the guy would not sell them to me. So I said okay, sell me what you can. After paying I walked straight to the managers office and asked to speak to her.

I asked her if there was a policy on the number of boxes I could buy. She said "no". I said that I had been there many times and was not able to find any. So finally I have found some, it's for sale, and I want to buy it.

She walked me back to the ammo counter and told the guy to sell me what I want. He didn't like it, she said sell it to him and then she somewhat quietly said to him "come see me when your done".

Well, I knew that I didn't make a friend of the guy at the gun counter but I had a smile on my face when I left.

Now I reload and have not had to dodge the walkers and wheel chairs at Walmart in about a year.

I dealt with the Wall-Martians (employees) for way to long before I got away from refrigeration service work. No offense to the mentally challenged but when you put so many in one place it really sucks the life out of you.

I never shopped while working in the stores.

the pistol ammo at dicks is behind a case??? i just assumed they didn't have any. huh.

    prices any good?

They occasionally have a decent sale price, and even though most of their coupons indicate that they exclude ammo, I've been repeatedly told by folks in the gun dept to use them, and have had no issues.

Forgive me if I missed it in the tread, but can we ask what store (City / State) you had this experience in? The only way stores fix stuff like this is if they know where to fix.

    On a related Walmart topic:

11:30, 8/17, I just got off the phone with Sonja, Wal-Mart district office mgr., Brownsberg. She admitted that she was not that familiar w Walmart Handbook rules, but was taught that their store complied ".... with Indiana Codes and all." (Not sure what that means to her. ) She seemed on OUR side in the potential of a "MWAG" incident, saying that if some other customer freaked out over a holstered weapon, she would ASK the licensed carrier "... to maybe put his shirt over the holster, or like that..." She would NOT have Security escort them OUT! She was very aware of the Indiana license and law on carry, that the license does not state OC, or CC. She then said, "You know, I'd better study the Handbook more closely, because we are going to start selling guns again."
A very positive conversation. I think MY best input was how so many Federal, State, & agencies have to approve an Indiana citizen who simply wants to exercise a Constitutional Right. Also, I determined that there IS a U.S.A. Walmart Handbook.

Us gun owners are really in trouble. There are just too many stupid people walking around who know nothing about guns from their safe use to the laws that govern their possession. We will be lucky if we will be allowed to even have them in a generation or so. I have 3 nephews that have had very little contact with guns nor care about the current attempts of the government to remove them from the hands of legal owners. My late father tried to get his grandsons interested in shooting with no luck due the opposition of my sister and her freeloading husband. I am very glad that I will not likely be around to see this happen. It will be a very sad day to see actual scenes from 1984 in this once great country.

Oh, my experience with the less than genius clerk who works behind the sports counter at wally world was that when the number of boxes of ammo was limited to 5 at the Bluffton store during the ammo shortage days, the clerk told me that five boxes was 5 boxes. So, instead of buying 5-50 rnd boxes of 22s, I bought 5-550 rnd boxes of 22s. That is 250 rnds vs 2750 rnds. I could have done the same thing for the larger caliber pistol bullets, too. I agree that 5 boxes is 5 boxes.
