when did Al Gore Sr. And Robert Bird become Republicans

That's Byrd to you son! When a man dedicates his life to recruiting klan members he deserves to have his name correctly identified so all can despise him.

In the early 1940s, Byrd recruited 150 of his friends and associates to create a new chapter of the Ku Klux Klan in Sophia, West Virginia.[SUP][12][/SUP][SUP][11][/SUP]According to Byrd, a Klan official told him, "You have a talent for leadership, Bob ... The country needs young men like you in the leadership of the nation." Byrd later recalled, "Suddenly lights flashed in my mind! Someone important had recognized my abilities! I was only 23 or 24 years old, and the thought of a political career had never really hit me. But strike me that night, it did."[SUP][12][/SUP] Byrd became a recruiter and leader of his chapter.[SUP][12][/SUP] When it came time to elect the top officer (Exalted Cyclops) in the local Klan unit, Byrd won unanimously.[SUP][12][/SUP]
In 1946, Byrd wrote to segregationistMississippi Senator Theodore G. Bilbo:[SUP][17]
    [/SUP]
I shall never fight in the armed forces with a negro by my side ... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see
Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.—Robert C. Byrd, in a letter to Sen. Theodore Bilbo (D-MS), 1946[SUP][12][/SUP][SUP][18][/SUP][SUP][19][/SUP]

There's far more to party affiliation than racism, and there's a heck of a lot of confusion about where that even fits. Southerners eligible to vote were reflexively D because they'd just lost a war against an enemy led by Rs, and "reconstruction" was particularly hard on them, which they also blamed on the Rs.

The transition between parties began in the late 19th century, and the fascist progressives were well ensconced among the 'rats by WWI and Wilson, before most were even aware of their existence. Inertia and self interest can be powerful motivators. My mother, as establishment R as you can picture, was nevertheless taken aback when I showed skepticism regarding FDR, as he had been built up as such a hero to her generation.

The parties didn't change fundamentally upon their encounter with the CRA, the changes were well established before that, but it may have been the CRA that triggered the noted shift. Ironically, the racism per se remains with the parties as it existed before this. It's still the progs that are the fascists and racists. Just think; they seek policies that perpetuate poverty and dependency among the very people that would most benefit from capitalism.

That's more true than you realize. Civil Rights Act made a LOT of people switch parties. Blue states became red, almost overnight (figuratively, of course).

Yep. Saw it happen in my own extended family, state and hometown. Yankees don't like to acknowledge it, and neither does the republican party, but it's a fact. Even the klan members down south switched from dem to republican. Matched up with their evangelical outlook and conservative ways.

That is certainly the leftist dogma. There could never be any racism among progressives. The Democrats in their sefl-righteousness have merely exchanged slavery with political servitude. They continue to make empty promises they have no intention of keeping. It's the same recipe they have been using for decades with phenomenal success. They continue to be voted in without ever actually showing any positive results or improving the lives of these constituents whatsoever. but that is perfectly fine with the party. After all, they have the guaranteed votes.

Edit: They have implemented the exact same game plan with the illegal aliens. Why change a winning formula?

Lol, Leftist dogma? Why is it that people don't want to admit that the stances of the party have fundamentally switched. Jesse Helms, Trent Lott, Strom Thurmond, the Golden Elephant, Bob Barr.... all former Democrats, now Republicans. They haven't/didn't change their political stances, so why did they change parties?

Don't forget what I mentioned up thread: Immortal
Yep, these "racist Republicans" never die.
How else are we going to justify constantly picking at the scab of racism, even where there is none to be found?
