    Not entirely true. The Koran states the People of the Book (Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians) have a third option besides conversion or death (those were the only options for "idolaters"). People of the book could become dhimmis (second-class citizens) who could continue to worship but must pay the jizya and are subject to numerous restrictions on buildings, clothing, transport and many other things.

    That was an Ottoman Empire ruling.
    You were a subhuman at best. One little slip up and you died.
    They also got to choose who were allowed to be. Thus the genocide of the Armenian Christians.
