I have had good and bad experiences at Cabelas. There is one guy in particular that works there that is an absolute (insert expletive). Just a very poor attitude. To the point where I want to grab him by the hair and face plant him into the counter, just like Capt. Augustus McCrae.
Other times, I have had a great time conversing with employees. Depends on when you go. But, there is that one dude. I want to beat proper manners into him everytime he is working.
Gun shops can be strange too. For instance, IMO the guys at Blythes in Griffith tend to be lacking in the personality department. But, the guys in Valpo have always been cool and friendly.
Westforths in Gary has always been a friendly place. Always a group of helpful guys and smoker friendly.
Anyways, don't hold it against them. Just depends when and where you go.
