You may find Indiana gun rights to be better than you're expecting. The licensing process is easier than in Louisiana (no training requirements), and when you pay $125 here, your license is good for life - unlike Louisiana, which is only good for 5 years. Also, "no firearms" signs do not carry the force of law here. And unlike Louisiana, Indiana is not a "must inform" state.
About the only downside is that you'll lose a few states' worth of reciprocity - but Indiana has no control over that. Unlike Louisiana, Indiana honors licenses issued by every state.
Louisiana is an open carry state and does't require a permit to carry openly.
This will mean that my Louisiana carry permit is no longer valid and there will be a period in-between where I will not be legally allowed to carry the same firearm that I have been carrying for the past 11 years.
I'll give you guys a bit more information about what I have in mind and what I would like to get organized.
Southerners always think that all of the North is Illinois or New Jersey. You are in for a pleasant surprise.
