Used HK USPC9v3, P2K. Don't skimp on your carry. Decocker only, IMO. Mags and holsters are available, unlike the SP2022.

S&W 3913. Great trigger and reliable. Walter PPK. Check out some of the CZ variants ie EAA, Canik etc. But as stated above, don't skimp. Your life depends on it.

If you think you can carry something a bit bigger (not hard at all) then you can't go wrong with a Ruger P-Series. P-89 etc. You can get these for $300. They are great shooters.

Also, we may want to define your price range. Sig p239? Unfortunately, guns with hammers are often a) heavy and metal b) expensive, comparatively.

I recently picked up a CZ P07 Duty. So far it is a very nice gun for the price. That being said, I have less than 1,000 rounds through it so I am nowhere near calling it flawless yet.

I too am carrying a CZ P07 Duty. I am very pleased with it and have not had a single failure out of it yet but have less than 500 rounds through it. I have the safety/non decocker model.

I picked up a Ruger P-95 and Old Faithfull holster and it works very well for me. I also carry S&W 4513TSW, S&W 645 and a Ruger P-345. All nice guns and easy to carry with the correct holster and belt. Jim.

Well, the CZ is affordable. Sig and HK not so much. Beretta is as big as a house, and people might make 'Riggs' jokes. Ruger makes some clunkers. Go for broke, get a P30

SIG SP2022 can be had for less than $400. I think it is a remarkable pistol for its price. Canik55 clones of CZs can be picked up for $300 and are perhaps an even better deal.

For a mid range look for a S&W 5906 or Beretta 92. I have carried both and worked on Beretta's. FWIW my preference is the 5906 out of those two. There are a ton of used police guns. Most police guns have more holster wear than anything else. Up in Price is the SIG 226, 228 229 line. At the other end on the low side is the Ruger p89 or 95. The Ruger won't win any beauty contest but they will run. Out of all (although not usually a mid grade price) The SIG 226, 228, 229 are the BEST. I have carried for work and play SIG's as well for 20 years and you wouldn't be disappointed in them.

As far as HK etc those are fine firearms but in Indiana not a lot of availability of "off the shelf" accessories so if that matters to you it could be a consideration.

I know you didn't mention this but Option B would be one of the DAO 5946 (which has such a short trigger stroke is probably one of the best true DAO autos) or Beretta 92D or get a Glock 17 and put an 8 lb trigger in it. The 8lb trigger gives Glocks more of a true DAO type feel. Believe it or not Glocks with 8lb triggers are not hard to shoot at all. Lighter isn't always better on a defense/carry gun but I'm an old wheel head so I was taught different when I grew up before the world of polymer.
