You can pick up a quality 1911 for a very reasonable price that will shoot well/accurately.

-Of course, a lot of that said is in the hands of the shooter... But they're great for practice.

I use a Springfield 1911A-1 or my Springer Trophy match.
Springfield loaded is a nice well priced piece. Para Ordinance has some well made moderately
priced 1911's. H&K USP is another one I really like.

1911: Springfield Range Officer (Love mine, just sold my Sig 1911). Nothing wrong with the Sig, but range officer was better firearm for me.

Not 1911: HK45 or 45c very nice ergos, great accuracy, some don't agree but I love their triggers.

    Match grade, preferably

Springfield Trophy match. It is a match grade pistol out of the box. I have a a field officer (Springer) and as stated up thread, a great shooter. The Trophy Match is levels above it. It is very reasonably priced for a March grade 1911.
Of all my .45 ACP's it is my overall favorite.

I have a CZ 97B that is very accurate. At least it makes me look good when I shoot it, but that's not saying too much. The stock trigger is good, but parts from CajunGunWorks.com will help it out a lot, for not much money.

Glock 21. Cheap trigger job and you'll be putting those 1911s to shame. Or you can spend a crap load on a 1911 then go through brand after brand and/or load after load trying to find ammo its not allergic to. Glocks will eat it all.

I have a Dan Wesson Valor and a Glock 21. Both do fine, but the Valor is sure pretty to look at! Match grade barrel too.

Please.....You will never get the trigger on a glock to match a 1911 with just a decent factory trigger. If you could I am sure more Glocks would show up in the hot rod gun & runs.
No knock on the Glock. I shoot with many fellas that can drill holes with them. Even they agree on the triggers. To each brand it's own advantage.
My 1911's eat about anything I feed them. Even the inexpensive GI's. That is an urban legend. The Glock boys have issues at times as do all semi-auto's.

My favorite carry is a Springer 1911A-1 that is the same price new as a Glock 21. Another urban legend.

    Not a rant....JMHO....carry on....

Never say never. Im pretty sure my Glocks adjustable trigger matches and/or exceeds a 1911 with a "decent factory trigger".

To the OP, remember, any gun you choice is going to be way more accurate than you (or anyone) will ever be. Practice and get to know your gun and it will do what you want.

True statement, most of the new guns, 1911's, Glocks, H&K's, are far better than those who use them.

Seen the adjustable, I shoot with some Glock addicts. We are all addicted you know. Not bad but they still like my 1911 triggers. They won't jump ship but they like the triggers.
I like shooting their Glocks but they are so butt ugly.....No offense.
