Biggest differences are grip, gen 4 has removable back straps. If the gen 3 isnt an sf model, the grip on the gen 4 is a bit smaller with the smallest backstap. Also, recoil assembly is different. I had a gen 3 sf model 20, it was a very interesting pistol, I just didn't have much use for a caliber that's difficult to find.
The G20 gen 4 is one of the Glock's that I would like to have as I think is a very versatile platform, the differences are smaller grip with optional backstraps, a bigger mag release button and a dual recoil spring guide rod.
Something that people may not know is that you can convert a G20 to shoot the easier to find .40S&W using just a different barrel so that may be something to think about.
