A number of us (myself included) shoot FNS, and several of the board members @ MCF&G are members here. Someone usually starts an "official" thread shortly before each month's match... guess they're a bit off their game this time. :dunno:

Doing a search on "Friday Night Steel" should bring up several pertinent threads. Otherwise, the info you seek can be found on the MCF&G homepage: Steel at Marion County Fish and Game Association, Indianapolis, Indiana

    Here's a thread from last month's match:

Round count last month was, 5 stages, with 6 targets, 3 strings for 180 count, if I recall

I don't think you're remembering right (the round count in your scenario above should only come to 90).

Typically there are 4-5 stages with 4-6 targets each, x3 runs per stage. I figure a nominal round count of 100 per gun, usually take 150 per and come home with ammo. Bring more if you plan to miss a lot. ;)

Making the unofficial thread more official

    Shooters,

Our Friday Night Steel match will be this Friday, March 12th at 6 pm. We will have 5 challenging courses of fire. We will begin course setup at 5:00 pm, and we'll need help from volunteers. We will have sign-up at 5:15 pm and a shooters meeting at 6:00 pm to explain the rules and to form squads. At 6:15 pm sharp, we plan to begin shooting. We'll be charging $10 for club members and $15 for non-members, with all money going towards the club or new steel targets. Shoot an additional gun for only $10 with your first paid entry.

FNS is conducted under a COLD RANGE. That means all guns must be either holstered (or bagged) at all times, unloaded, hammer down, with no magazine inserted. You may only handle your gun at the direction of the range officer (RO), or in the designated "safe areas." You may not handle any ammunition or loaded magazines in the safe areas! Violation of these or any other safety rules shall result in a match disqualification.

If you wondered where to purchase the Friday Nights Steel gear that some of the RO’s were wearing. You can now purchase Official Friday Night Steel shirts and hats at Café press

Friday Night Steel : Inertia Unlimited Apparel

5 magazines or speed loaders is now the minimum requirement. If you do not bring enough magazines to complete all of the strings of fire, you will receive the maximum time for the strings of fire that you were unable to complete. We will not allow shooters (or their friends) to load magazines at the shooting line in between strings of fire, as it slows down the shooting procedure for other competitors.

With our numbers continuing to grow we ask that everyone does their part to make the match run as smoothly as possible. Be ready when it is your time on the firing line. Help to reset the steel. Volunteer to keep score.

If you're new to competitive shooting, we encourage you to check out the following site. It shows upcoming shooting events for 3-gun, Action Pistol (Bianchi Cup), Bowling Pin Shooting, Cowboy Action Shooting (SASS), ICORE, IDPA, Multi-gun, Steel Challenge, and USPSA. The sight is now listing results for FNS so be sure to check them out.

"As to species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with a ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." This sounds like fun, I may try and join you all if I can find enough magazines and ammo.

I'm a little rusty because the past 15 years most of my shooting has been from horseback doing Cowboy Mounted Shooting. Not sure if my single action six shooters would do much good on this course but I still have a few 1911's around.

I'm not a true greenhorn, I did some USPSA shooting back in the day but the eyes aren't as good, I'm little older, fatter, and slower, but I can still have fun.

I'll keep an eye out for this event and see if I still have enough gear for it.

Ill be there on Friday as usual but I have a question, my friends has a .22 Pistol Revolver. What class would he be placed in. He doesn't really care about time, as it is his Dad's old gun that he just wants to shoot for fun.

I always have at least 200. I don't think I've ever used that many, but it is a nice round number. I believe they generally recommend around 150.

    Shotgun?

Is anybody else thinking about shooting shotgun for FNS this week? I thought it might be good practice for the Speed Shotgun Match at Atlanta Conservation Club this weekend...

Unless he has 5 speedloaders for it, I would suggest he leave it at home. While he may not care about his times, he would be holding the match up for others if he had to manually load the gun each time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you say "old .22 revolver" I'm imagining something without a swing-out cylinder.

I also want to suggest that we change-up our "after party" because our normal spot should be unusually busy with the basketball tournament going on and whatnot... I don't have a suggestion, but I'm still suggesting it...:D
