I've worked a bit stripping the "hunting camo" paint from the upper, but will not spend too much effort on it as I will probably do some paint scheme of my own.

    Upper parts:
    New Daniel Defense barrel: 1/7 mid-length 16"
DD low-profile gas block and tube
    Used Colt upper and BCG
    Used KAC free float rail
    BCM Gunfighter (medium) charging handle
    Magpul AFG2 - OD Green

Hopefully sights, flash hider and rest of stuff arrive tomorrow.

shopping, trading, selling other stuff to fund, haggling... :D

glad I didn't just take the money my wife "gave me" and bought a new budget gun.

This has been much more rewarding and I've learned what it takes to build one.

where do you guys like your light mounted?

I like mine on the left side of the handguard so that I can activate it with my support hand thumb. Normally I grip with my thumb up and over the handguard tube, but then lay it along the barrel axis to activate the tailcap switch on the light. I put the light as far forward as I can to mimimze the shadow cast by the end of the barrel.

Take a flat file and file it down some on the side facing the barrel. Take enogh off so that you'll need about a half turn to clock it. Use a black Sharpie on the shiny aluminum or BC Aluminum Black if you have it.

A little closer to completion, still have OD Green Magpul rail covers on the way.

Think I'm going to get flip-ups instead of the DD fixed. We'll see.

Gonna go zero my borrowed Aimpoint tomorrow.
