Hostess files for bankruptcy protection citing pensions and labor as principle reasons
Twinkies maker Hostess seeks bankruptcy protection - WSJ.com

In its filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, Hostess disclosed that its biggest unsecured creditor is the Bakery & Confectionary Union & Industry International Pension Fund, which it owes approximately $944.2 million.

Its second-largest unsecured creditor, Central States, Southeast and Southwest Areas Pension Plan is owed far less, about $11.8 million.

I wonder who those 19,000 Interstate Bakery Union member employees will blame if they lose their jobs.
Certainly not the Union that bankrupted the company.

    Probably Bush.....:):

Zombieland Tallahassee: There's a box of Twinkies in that grocery store. Not just any box of Twinkies, the last box of Twinkies that anyone will enjoy in the whole universe. Believe it or not, Twinkies have an expiration date. Some day very soon, Life's little Twinkie gauge is gonna go... empty.

    Hmmmm....<NOT a fan of Mitt, BUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut.>

Hmmmm, how about a takeover from a company like Baen<sp> Capital?

Reorganization of internal structure, introduce and implement lean manufacturing, etc.

Some of the labor force gets laid off and has to go elsewhere due to:
    1. They can't do their job.
    2. They job function is useless as t*ts on a boar
    3. They have the pure bad luck of being in the wrong place and wrong time.

But as a benefit, even if 25% of the labor force (that includes management now) gets laid off, the others may or may not (probably will) get a paycut and reduced benefits, but get to remain working and supporting their families. The company either keeps them or sells them off as a self supporting and self sustaining company. And the rest get to keep working at a company that is STABLE and is going to be there for quite awhile.

Quite a bit different picture than what is being potrayed by Newt Gingrich's superpac Winning the Future.

Predatory business practices I think not. You either are able to compete (and make money) or you are about ready to go out of business and all the employees who rely on that company are screwed.

    Food for thought.

I'm still a Ron Paul fan though, I'll take him over Mitt, but if push comes to shove and Mitt gets the nomination, I'll still pull the lever for Mitt.

Big union shop, so the template has already been produced
If there is a bail out, we'll see a very Government Motors Like process where "former" union leadership are placed in charge by Big O, I suspect.
