no it does not... lazer engraving just changes the surface and doesnt really "cut" into the metal. per the aft if must be at least 7 mils deep.
    Close, but not quite.

ATF requirement for depth is .003" (3 mils), not 7.

Also, your reply implies that all laser engraving just changes the surface, but that isn't true. The cheap laser engravers only etch the surface and burn away finishes/coatings. There are laser engravers that will actually engrave to depth in the metal. Unfortunately I believe to get into that game with a laser is going to run you $20-40,000 on the lower end.

Not trying to single you out or pick on you, I just wanted to make sure people know the full story on laser engravers and ATF requirement for engraving.

nope i stand corrected... and i know the machine that vette has is close to a 20k machine so it MIGHT" be able to go deep enough... but he said that it has to be done on a non reflective surface which leads me to believe its only etching the surface.

im not sure how deep i can cut. i can not turn up the power for fear of damaging the machine. i might be able to run alot of passes and get it done but as it stands now i really dont want to try.

i do know that the machine im running is 20 grandish
