For any democrat like Leahy who lives in a rural state, voting for gun control is poitical suicide. This issue is not nearly as bi-partisan as it seems. Its more urban v. rural. Our democratic senator, Joe Donnelly, is pro-gun and was one of seventeen Democrats in the U.S. House to vote with the Republican majority for the criminal contempt of congress sanctions against US AG Eric holder for the fast and furious debacle.

The same Joe Donnelly that swore to vote against Obamacare but did so anyway? That joe Donnelly? The Joe Donnelly that initially said he might be open to some new gun control, until we all blasted him with calls and letters? That Joe Donnelly?

Yes, that Joe Donnelly. Was something unclear in my post?

Yes, but he performed better than Lugar who would have ignored and insulted us rather than going the right way with a little assistance.

Did anyone else notice this in the article...?

David Kopel, an adjunct Professor of constitutional law at Denver University, said universal background checks “are only enforceable with universal gun registration,”

That makes no sense at all. He's saying you can't check a background unless all guns are registered...?!
