Hello, I'm new to the site, and I just purchased a new Smith & Wesson compact M&P .45 cal. I I have only had the chance to fire 16 rounds through it, and it fired flawlessly, had very low recoil for a .45, and was accurate. I would like any feedback good or bad on this firearm, and any tips on aftermarket parts to make it better. Thanks !

one word for you - Apex! They make several upgrades for M&P that are well worth the money and easy to install. Not positive on the 45 compatability as I own a 40 but check em out.

you can find numerous threads on their stuff with reviews.

Good luck welcome to the forum.

Daily carrier of the M&P40c and have zero complaints about it after a year of owning it. Actually looking for a .40L in the near future. I've heard nothing but good things about Apex parts, I've got the dcaek kit for mine a few weeks ago but havn't installed it yet. Considering night sights for mine, but other than these two things, I plan on leaving it as it is. Mine's been as accurate as I am, and never a FTF/FTE. Has been 100% reliable.

i prefer the Glock to the M&P. after hearing rave reviews, I was really disappointed with the M&P stock trigger. To be fair, I think it will smooth out after I put a few more rounds through it, and I would be interested in doing the APEX mods. But so far, the Glock remains my EDC.

Shot a friends fullsize M&P 45 with no safety.I was shocked by the trigger. It had a ton of travel before it fired.I have no experience with the M&P line.Is this normal or a feature of the non safety model?

Yes. It's the same thing as the double trigger on the Glock or XD.

You didn't say what your intended use of the 45 is is this a carry gun, or a fun gun, if its a fun gun then you can go with the all the parts that apex offers and get a reduced trigger pull and travel, I did this my my 40 and it does a great job of fixing any trigger complaints but if you go with the competition kit it may be a little lighter than you really want on a SD gun. If you go with just the sear only you get a better trigger but still keeps it in the SD gun catagory.

One thing about the 45 I like is that it has the scallops which give you better purchase and looks better than the 40/9

everybody here will give you thier choice on holsters and such but finding the right holster that fits your carry style all the top makers are doing a good job right now so don't be afriad to just go with the one you like

I really like Smiths M&P line. I bought the 45 M&P and it was the best shooting 45 auto I've used. I didn;t think the trigger was bad at all. As far as after market parts there is an M&P forum with tons of info and parts distributors and specialists.

I liked it so much I sold my SIG 226 and got the 9mm M&P. I plan on getting another M&P 45. Sold the 45 to get my daughter the M&P 9 compact (the sacrafices Dads make I tell you).

    Good luck

Thanks for all of the feedback, I plan on this being my carry gun, I have been carrying it and I love the compact size, It is the same size as the Smith 9MM I am used to carrying. I know nothing about gunsmithing, is there a shop in the west indy/ Plainfield area that can install the Apex Upgrades ?

I put the apex hard sear in my M&P within 15 minutes while watching TV and the installation video. It is really easy...you just need a small punch and a hammer. I have not tried the other Apex parts yet but am extremely happy with the improvements to the trigger from just adding the sear.

Apex makes great parts for the M&P line of pistols. I own a full size M&P 45 and a Spec-ops 9 and they run flawlessly!

Put me down as another M&P KoolAid drinker. The .45 is a terrific handgun and is very enjoyable to shoot. The Apex parts make the trigger better than the factory parts. Here's a gratuitous shot of mine :D

I put 300 rounds through my 9c on Saturday. Really comfortable to shoot, and I don't have a problem with it as is for a carry gun, but I think I might get an Apex DCAEK kit just for kicks. :)

On my current M&P .45 full size, I have 450 rounds through it with not a burp. I have not installed the DCAEK or sear from Apex yet, but I will.

Not to hijack the thread, but, I got an M&P45c around the same time as the op and after reading this thread I'm now confused... I had the DCAEK in my midway cart... But will just the hard sear do the trick? I've read somewhere that some people have gotten better results/better trigger pull with the apex parts and stock springs... OK I guess this thread is officially :hijack:
