If I was to have just one firearm...I would towards a rifle. Since I would only have one firearm to reload for or purchase ammo for caliber shouldn't be an issue. I would go for a SCAR H. I really like my SCAR 16, but if I didn't have to buy more ammo a .308 would be the way to go. Assuming the different barrel sizes become available. I could SBR - for room clearing. Standard barrel for mid range and long barrel for reaching out. It's kind of a cheat since I would still have 3 rifles in one.

despite my already chiming in on this topic, SCAR Heavy (MK17) is something I believe in... good call:yesway:

Depends on if I stay where I am the rest of my life or move out to the country like I want to.

Stay in city: Ruger P95 - Pistol is best for urban setting and 9mm is one of most common pistol rounds

Move to country: Marlin 60 - Rifle better for rural settings and .22 is everywhere.

Custom Springfield 1903 action in 308. Raw accuracy, darn reliable, and drop dead gorgeous.

My .44 Mag Ruger Redhawk with 7.5" barrel. It is big and scary enough to make someone think twice about what they are thinking about doing, but small enough to be transported almost anywhere with little effort in a comfortable holster. Not much good for hunting a squirrel, however. All of the previous choices have their pros and cons and so does mine, but the question was not what would be the best all round gun to have if you only could have one, it was which gun would you choose.

Hmmm. Id have to go with a gun I dont own right now. (but will as soon as the price is right ). Good ol lever action chambered in .357/.38. Seems almost the perfect rifle caliber combo.

I can't say with certainty because I haven't fired every single make and model of gun out there in order to be able to make an educated decision. But... out of the guns I own already, I would take my Vector AK-47 without a doubt.

    Glock 19 9mm.

Great size for CC, good size to have fun at the range.
Glock parts are cheap, 9mm is cheap and you can find it all over the globe.

It would be the Jericho 941 in .45 ACP.
It has become my favorite handgun to shoot, its tuff as a tank (weighs in like one) and of course fires the venerable .45 ACP.

Good self defense weapon, accurate as all get out, will keep going and going.
Only drawback, its all metal, heavy to use as EDC. But I would make the sacrifice and carry it even though my pants would ride down around my knees.

I'm gonna second the 10/22 (scoped). For right now, it is my SHTF gun (in addition to whatever handgun I am carrying).

All of the reasons the poster on Page 1 stated + I could carry 5,000 rounds of ammo for it in a backpack and it would still be reasonably light!

a double barrel 50 caliber Flintlock.
Very Versitile with the use of Shot, balls or mini balls.
I would be able to make some kind of powder to use it with in a pinch
and they can't make lead and flint illegal:)
