Ditto the 39M! I've had mine for nigh onto 30 yrs now and wouldn't part with it for diamonds. The Rossi M62's are a real close 2nd when it comes to grins, though.
My favorite was an Ithaca model 72? I could shoot the wings off of a ladybug with that gun but unfortunately sold it when cash was needed way back in the early eighties...I have a couple 10/22's a nice Winchester 9422 (hate the rear buckhorn sight) but I love the rifle. I'm in search of another Ithaca if anyone knows where one can be found.
I have two favorites. A Marlin M60 that has killed more squirrels than I care to count. And a Rem. 581S that is not far behind in the squirrel count. The only reason it is behind is because I have had the Marlin since I was 12 years old. The old 581 S is the most forgiving 22 for accuracy with different ammo that I have ever seen. Shoots anything you put in it minute of squirrel head at 50 yards.
Hoosier45: I got the first of my two Rossi M62's out of nostalgia: The very first 'real' gun I ever fired was a Winchester 62 at a shooting gallery on the pier at Santa Cruz, CA when I was about five with my Dad and Uncle Bill.
When my youngest nephews were ready to graduate to repeaters, I had to buy another one and put a 'youth' butt stock on it. That stopped the arguments over whose turn it was to use the pump-gun and turned the competition on the duelling tree back into a game of pure skill. Great times, and the little Rossi's are still heavy favorites when they come to visit!
I bought a Remington Nylon 66 about 1960 and have fired thousands of rounds through it. It shoots just as good today as it did the day I purchased it. A great .22.
My 10/22 has been my all time favorite .22lr since I bought it in 1985. It's factory except for the compact 4X32 scope. With a 40 grain bullet it is more accurate than I am.
With a 36 grain bulk pack HP, I may as well just close my eyes, my chances of hitting the target would be about the same.
I have a Springfield model 53A, single shot, bolt action that i got off gunbroker for less than a hundred bucks. I can hit just about anything with it, and it is the first gun both my boys ever shot. for the memories, of all the new shooters i have has start with it, it is my favorite in my collection.
My favorite 22 is my Glenfield/Marlin 25 I got when I was 12 back in 1975. It's accurate and reliable if not overly glamorous. I enjoy shooting my 10/22 and the son's Henry is fun too, but that old Marlin still holds a special place for me.
I went up to gander mountain in full mind of going ahead and getting a new 10/22 to play with too. Well I walked away with nothing. I havent looked at the new 10/22's in a while and man I was suprised at how cheap they look now. Way to much plastic. I guess a will wait and find an older one that has real metal. A plastic barrel bad ...... ???? And they look cheap too!!
Toss up. I like my CZ 452 Lux because I prefer irons, but my kid's Savage MKII is scoped and it really is fun to shoot, too.
I hate the Marlin 60 Jam-O-Matic.
