I've been to Elmore's exactly once and that was an in-and-out type deal back in '97 or '98. Gotta say their reported behavior was what I would have associated with MCSD Building (Special) Deputies (who would - in general - put one in mind of the Keystone Kops or a certain Mayberry Deputy when they got to clowning around) when I was working part-time there, rather than with actual full-time trained LEOs. The OP can probably find a half-dozen better LGS in the Indy area.

AH, I see Elmore's is living up to their reputation of A$$hattery. Pretty sad as it has such great potential to be a fantastic establishment..... minus the staff. The staff are what kills the experience of the shop, Period. You can only have so much business from LEO's when it comes to selling firearms. At some point you would think a little light bulb would click and someone would say.."oh sh**, we need to change our attitudes!" But, then again that would be akin to changing....and they do not appear to welcome change. To the OP...you are 100 times better off going to Bradis, Profire Arms, hell there are not to many shops that cannot beat Elmore's in a competition. Good luck!

I've had the same experiences at Elmores. Walked in, very few people in the store and not one salesperson asked if I needed any help or wanted to check anything out. I just don't know how stores like this stay in business. Ignoring customers who walk in the door is absolutely ridiculous. Notwithstanding any of the comment here at INGO Elmores will just keep trudging along and not care about any potential customers.

KLCalloway, Last night I read about your experience at Elmore’s. I have shopped at Elmore’s,Bradis, and PSS and have received good service from them all.
Being that I have been in customer sales/service for almost two decades, I was wondering about a few things:
How do you believe Elmore’s should have handled your experience?
What would you have done differently?
    Thanks in advance, MoDog

Wow, I've never been in Elmore's but it sure seems like the concensus is that I shouldn't bother. I did call them once to ask about scopes that were in stock and was told to "come in and look". They couldn't be bothered to go and look for me while I was on the phone. That's why I've never been in... and now, won't ever be.

The truth of Elmore's is... they're like a big family of people (between Employees, actual Family, Law Enforcement buddies, etc)...
And with family, you have comfort zones. Well they're very comfortable in their shop and it shows.
To the nit-picky customer, you'll be easily annoyed by their sometimes lack of professionalism and blunt responses,
But most of the guys there DO know their stuff.

They've been in the business for a while and many people like them because they're straight forward. This means TOO straight forward for some.

I can't attest to or vouch for EVERY employee of Elmore's... but that's just the environment of that place.
I go there some what regularly; not enough to become "buddy-buddy" with any of them, but enough that they remember my face when I purchase.

Regarding the OP's concerns - I'm an animal lover so I understand the frustration and honestly, it'd have probably pissed me off too.
I guess without knowing that person (the dog owner) very well, I'd have just bit my tongue and tried to avoid a nasty argument.

For all these reasons is why someone like Bradis is so popular... because they hire people NOT just for the knowledge but because the employee's
there are generally willing to HELP you... Not just serve you.

I'll continue to support ALL local gun shops that continue to serve me well. (Elmore's, Bradis, Indy Trading Post and Beech Grove Firearms).
Could I receive bad service? Sure. But I'll cross that bridge if I get to that point). Sorry you had a bad experience.

    Jeff

Thanks for all of the posts and encouragement! They confirm my opinion that one would be better off at Indy Trading Post, Bradis, or Beech Grove Firearms. Last week, I also got a chance to drop by Profire and talk with Andrew so reloading supplies are covered. Don't know how they are listed here, but the Family Indoor Shooting Range has much improved since getting the "Pop" part of the Pop Guns sign off of the roof. They have installed upgraded lighting and made the place a little less Stygian which is going to help with newer folks looking to learn about guns and join the culture. Still tightly staffed, but I think the new lighting and openness has helped them as well. I have never had them be rude, just trying to serve a lot of customers/clerk. They keep a fair supply of parts and accessories too. Though I can see why they don't, it would be nice if some of those accessory racks could be moved out into the sales area.

Have a good remainder of the holiday weekend. As is my usual for this time of the year, I find myself sitting on the Group W bench shocked by that one question set all by itself on the back of the form, in the middle of the back of the form, in parentheses, in quotations, (“Kid, have you rehabilitated yourself?”).

Start with - KLGalloway no relation to Cab. As for Elmore's staff handling things better 1) Don't be popping off caps or primers in a gun store, 2) When it was pointed out that the dog was upset, the owner should have come to get him and take him to the back saying something along the lines of, "Oh ****, I shouldn't have done that! How juvenile of me! Sorry, man, let me get him in the back to calm down."
That would have meant that I wouldn't have bothered posting to begin with.

This, not everywhere in this world is lollipops, potpourri, powdered baby butts and roses. If ya don't like it then don't go there. As for you that have never been in there don't rule out a place because someone else is trashing it, be an adult, keep an open mind and go try it if ya don't like it don't go.

I for one love going to Elmore's and usually don't frequent any other shops. I however enjoy open honest, straight-forward no candy coating on my conversation and enjoy adult time.

To each their own. I give Elmore's :yesway:

I visited Elmore's today, just for a specific item that I knew they carried. I was in, walked for about 30 seconds, and an employee asked what I was looking for. I told him I was looking for some Magpul goodies and another employee, all the way across the shop, started yelling out where they were located. I found it with ease and liked that they were willing to interrupt their conversations with one another to help someone out. Then, I got to the register and it didn't have a price sticker on it. He asked if it was $15, I told him it was $15.50 and he said, "Alright, $15 it is." I would have stopped by Bradis, but this was between point A and point B, where Bradis would have been point C.

I was at Elmores last night and heard about the incident and that the emotionally distraught former customer had posted a rant on Ingo. Funny thing is, I heard the story from 3 different people who were there as well, including the LEO who escorted him out and not a single story matches the op's. He said, she said BS. Nobody here has even questioned the validity of the claim, let alone what actually happened. OP doesn't even know what the cause of the sound was, let alone why it offended his sensibilities to the point that he felt it necessary to join INGO for the purpose of defaming Elmores.

And for the record, in the last 17 years of shopping at Elmores, This incident was one of the least amusing incidents I've heard of. Before Jason took over things were a bit more lax with regard to fun index. There were regular tazings, Airsoft wars and black powder charges in ashtrays. Oh, the good old days.

Well that reinforces my desire to avoid Elmore's. ANY horseplay by anyone, especially professionals, around guns is inexcusable. I have actually been a customer and not found them to be that bad but if that crap has been going on then I'm out. Thanks for the heads up!

I've had good and bad experiences there. My last was the worst so I won't be going back. The public has a bad enough impression of gun owners as it is and I would think that people that make their livelihood from guns would want to put the most positive light on guns and gun owners. Sorry but there are to many shops that take their business seriously that deserve repeat customers to put up with this kind of horse :poop:

That's the great thing about the place. If you don't want to be there, you have no reason to go. Everyone wins.

    Welllll????

Go into Elmores, walk up to the shortest guy at the counter and call him Frodo, then ask him the same question. He'll have all the information you wish to hear. Like I said, I wasn't there. I don't care to distribute 3rd hand information over the internet.
