One one hand, I can see how naming a gun is strange to some folks. I think of it in this way:
A Glock, cannot be named, unless severe custom work is done to it.
If one builds a gun from the ground up (this discounts also pasting upper to lower), then they can name it if they see fit.
If one has tuned a gun severely and to a point of being custom to them, as I have with all my guns, then they have the option of naming it.
My brand new to me 1911 (the other is Moya, which will probably be given to my father) will be named "Song of Four Seasons". It is slated for a complete overhaul .
Whether or not I name a gun depends on whether it has "character." My Mosin Nagant was named "Mossy" until I got the Mossberg 500, then the Mosin became "Mossy I" and the Mossberg became "Mossy II" (not very original). The 1911 is "Moses" and the AR15 clone is "Exotic Dancer" (shamelessly stolen from uptopic--it started as a stripped lower and its magazines are fed from "stripper clips"). The 10/22 and the J-22 don't have names (except sometimes "Pahs" for the J-22).
As in That Punk, That Bitch, That Dumbass, etc....
So you can ask people if they saw you shoot That Punk?
Or you can ask them to come join you and shoot That Bitch.
Or I had so much fun today shooting That Dumbass.
My wife nick named my latest AR project the dirty brown rifle. Mainly because I painted it brown, and it's a field gun so it's usually dirty and sandy.
