Did your "Pride" hit every step on the way down?

    Mine always does.... :(
Bruising one's pride can be a pain in the ass!

It happened too fast. I went down head first. At first I felt alright, then I tried to stand up, and fell right back down. I was sure my a ankle was broke, but apparently just a really bad sprain.

Germany Concerned about Aggressive NATO Stance on Ukraine - SPIEGEL ONLINE

Fairly in depth article covering over a year of activity. In short though the German Chancellery just said the head of NATO Gernaral Philip Breedlow was spreading nothing but "dangerous propaganda." Our German allies just told us that our assessment on Russia and Ukraine is propaganda, not facts.Read the entire article for more information, and be certain it sure as hell is not written by Putin supporter.

General Philip Breedlove, the top NATO commander in Europe, stepped before the press in Washington. Putin, the 59-year-old said, had once again "upped the ante" in eastern Ukraine -- with "well over a thousand combat vehicles, Russian combat forces, some of their most sophisticated air defense, battalions of artillery" having been sent to the Donbass. "What is clear," Breedlove said, "is that right now, it is not getting better. It is getting worse every day."

German leaders in Berlin were stunned. They didn't understand what Breedlove was talking about. And it wasn't the first time. Once again, the German government, supported by intelligence gathered by the Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND), Germany's foreign intelligence agency, did not share the view of NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR).
The pattern has become a familiar one. For months, Breedlove has been commenting on Russian activities in eastern Ukraine, speaking of troop advances on the border, the amassing of munitions and alleged columns of Russian tanks. Over and over again, Breedlove's numbers have been significantly higher than those in the possession of America's NATO allies in Europe. As such, he is playing directly into the hands of the hardliners in the US Congress and in NATO.
The German government is alarmed. Are the Americans trying to thwart European efforts at mediation led by Chancellor Angela Merkel? Sources in the Chancellery have referred to Breedlove's comments as "dangerous propaganda." Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier even found it necessary recently to bring up Breedlove's comments with NATO General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg.

Putin appears to be another Stalin in the making, just less paranoid and more psychotic. His backers (ostensibly oligarchs) should sit him down while (if) they still can

Well, some secrets aren't really secrets.
BBC News - Putin reveals secrets of Russia's Crimea takeover plot

Vladimir Putin has admitted for the first time that the plan to annex Crimea was ordered weeks before the referendum on self-determination.
Crimea was formally absorbed into Russia on 18 March, to international condemnation, after unidentified gunmen took over the peninsula.
Mr Putin said on TV he had ordered work on "returning Crimea" to begin at an all-night meeting on 22 February.
The meeting was called after Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych was ousted.
Speaking last year, Mr Putin had said only that he took his final decision about Crimea after secret, undated opinion polls showed 80% of Crimeans favoured joining Russia.

I'm sure this will shock everyone, but there are reports that one of the Chechens who "confessed" to Nemtsov's murder was tortured before his confession.

    No. Way.
BBC News - Nemtsov murder: Zaur Dadayev confession 'forced'
Zaur Dadayev and Shagid Gubashev, who both originate from Chechnya, were charged with his killing on Sunday. Three other men are being held in connection with the case.
After visiting them in prison on Wednesday, Mr Babushkin said there were "reasons to believe Zaur Dadayev confessed under torture".
He called for "people not involved in the investigation" to look into the claim.
Russian investigators have since asked Russian human rights activists not to meddle in the investigation.

Hmmm... perhaps there's a tit-for-tat game going on.
BBC News - Yanukovych ally Peklushenko in new Ukraine mystery death
Five other officials also died in mysterious circumstances this year.
All of them supposedly took their own lives in the past six weeks

    • Stanislav Melnyk, 53, an ex-MP was found shot dead in his bathroom on 9 March
    • Mykhaylo Chechetov, former party deputy chairman, died after apparently jumping from a window in his 17th-floor flat on 28 February; he had been accused of abuse of office and fraud
    • Serhiy Valter, a mayor in the south-eastern city of Melitopol, was found hanged on 25 February; he too had been accused of abuse of office
    • Oleksandr Bordyuh, a former police deputy chief in Melitopol linked to Mr Valter, was found dead at his home on 26 February
    • Oleksiy Kolesnyk, ex-head of Kharkiv's regional government was found hanged on 29 January
An interior ministry source told Interfax Ukraine news agency Mr Peklushenko, 60, had committed suicide in the village of Sonyachne, near Zaporizhzhya city.

    From Garry Kasparov:

Approaching the Ides of March, a fateful time for dictators... Alexander II, March 13. Nikolai II, March 15. Stalin (2nd ruler of USSR), March 5. Putin (2nd president of Russia) ...? Putin is vain & believes his image as physically strong is important in Russia, so even merely being ill or injured could do this. The tensions between factions of his supporters are likely rising in the wake of Nemtsov's murder. May be taking time for that. Most relevant thing of Putin's absence is how it reveals the fragility of a one-man dictatorship, the most dangerous form of government. Putin destroyed civil society, all opposition, & routinely eliminated any rivals. Typical dictator method of threatening chaos if he falls.

I uh... I hope he's not actually in Russia right now.
