Re-reading that article...notice the IFD official mentioned. She appeared on our morning show Sunday and said basically the same thing; that "ammunition in fires acts like it does from a firearm" and that "the last thing firefighters need while fighting fires is bullets flying around".
I've already sent an internal email quoting SAAMI that this obviously isn't the case.
But you have to understand...that when press and journalists have zero knowledge of firearms/ammunition and a fire official tells them this happens...they will assume the firefighters are correct.
so when you say "when does the media 'report' anything truthfully?" - in this case, they were 100% accurate. Because they reported what officials told them.
There could be the possibility that the house had several loaded firearms in it when it caught fire, thus the rounds would function as if the trigger had been pulled. Thus, the Star's story is misleading as they suggest ammo alone could do this, but it is not impossible with the above suggested scenario.
