I've never put my SS# on the form, and I've never been delayed. :dunno:

I was delayed the first 2 times I purchased a handgun. The LGS suggested I put my SS# on the form and since then I've never been delayed. Evidently someone with my name isn't or hasn't been behaving properly.

Knock on wood, I've never been delayed or denied. In fact, I think the longest it has taken for an approval is about 60 seconds.

I actually heard a story recently about a federal agent getting delayed from a local dealer. The dealer called right away and magically the agent got approved then!

When you get delayed, you have to wait up to 7 days unless NICS calls the dealer before 7 days. After the 7th day the dealer can allow you to purchase and take the firearm with you. It is not the dealer that has the choice to give you the gun until NICS gives the dealer the "proceed" status. If the person on the phone (NICS) is on or going to break you will get delayed. Trust me I have police officers that get delayed all the time. I have also had a federal firearm permit person get denied. That is kinda freeky that they will give him a federal permit but will not give him permission to purchase.
