I have had the following Mustang GT’s

1990 five speed white and blue brand new I think it was $17,000
1995 five speed black brand new was $15,000 ish plain Jane
2015 six speed black brand new no options like $28,000

I wouldn’t recommend one that being said.

My Daughters first car she bought was a 2008 Mustang GT auto!

It was black on black fully loaded sweet leather seats. Daddy put a loud flow master exhaust on it. Then pink stripes and tinted the windows. We always knew when she came home you could hear her a block away. Pi$$ed off some people we she cranked it up at 0600.

She wrote the 1st check of her life for $10,000 for her car. She had worked and saved $$ since she was 13.

What does the insurance run on Mustangs in the modern day? People I've talked to over the years have run me away from considering them. Some paying insurance payments higher that the monthly lone payments?

I bought an ugly body style 1st gen manual tranny Ford Focus off of an INGOer ten years ago. Buddy who took me to pick it up named it the "Rally Car." I drive it as such. It's a lot of fun. :)

The car cleaned up good. After I rattle-canned the wheels, hardly anyone notices the body scratches and dings other than me. It's well worth keeping the black car washed as it looks surprisingly new from a distance, with nothing more than turtle wax wash and occasional tire foam.

The Rally Car is about to turn over 200K. I'm starting to keep my eye out for the next Focus, manual tranny's only before ya'll start :blahblah:, thanks. :n00b:

*** A tip for teenage daughters - Make sure you teach them how to wash a car correctly. It will help them to appreciate taking care of equipment overall. When they open the doors, trunk, hatch, hood and all the jambs are as shiny as the exterior they'll feel good about their effort and will get compliments from others. Same with tires and wheel wells. It doesn't take much effort to keep them cleaner than 90% of the cars on the road. Similarly with a somewhat clean interior people notice this, including mechanics, tire guys and the like. They treat well kept cars accordingly. :twocents:

I agree, this is my GTO engine compartment after 14 years of ownership. I paid 26K for it sold it for 15.5k 14 years later. I could probably have gotten more, but I needed the money to pay off the vette.

A GTO was one of the cars I thought of when I was trying to think of manuals. Those are bringing a pretty penny these days.

I'm going to disagree with a few and agree with others... I'd steer her away from a RWD car like a mustang or miata due to being a young driver, winter approaching and insurance rates. Although with snow tires they can be great in the snow I feel like there are better choices.
I'd definitely agree with the civic or mazda 3. I've had several Mazdas with almost no issues and I've had a few friends with high mileage Hondas that just won't quit. The small Japanese cars just seem to be more practical and efficient for daily driver duty.

That being said, I currently have a Shelby Gt350, it's an amazing car, but it's not driven often. I've had a miata and really enjoyed it, but didn't drive it in the winter much and never in snow. I've daily driven a mazda 3 and mazda 6 with no complaints what so ever. And I had an RX8 that despite being low and rear wheel drive, it was somehow one of the greatest winter cars I've driven. It was outfitted with a good quality set of snow tires and didn't have enough power to really get myself in trouble.

Toyota's would be my suggestion. My wife used to be a home care nurse and put a ton of miles on. And not interstate miles, mostly county and some state roads. She was always in Camry's. We would run them to about 350-400k before getting a different one. All of them never needed any major repairs, just maintenance items, I think she went through 4 cars.

Finding a manual makes it tougher. Maybe a Corolla. Civics are great cars as well and can be found in a manual.

A good friend, now deceased, started a contracting business from scratch and had great success. His motto pertained to more than cars but was "When in doubt buy a Honda"

Toyota is a close second. In 2017 I bought my son a solid 2008 Corolla. I think I paid $7,500. He still drives it every day. In seven years it's only been in the shop once. He had the water pump replaced.

Niece is 19 and Jael has a 2020 Hyundai Elantra purchased over high school with her cell phone sales money (she sells cell phones and apparently gets a commission of some sort). She paid for it but Matt approved it mechanically.

She commutes to college north of Pittsburgh (think suburb to suburb) in it. Very dependable vehicle.

I’m a Korean car guy. In the last 22 years we’ve put close to a million miles on them. 10k gets you into a lot of decent, fun to drive stuff with manual transmissions. Any of the 1.6t cars with a manual post 2013 (forte sx, elantra gt, veloster). Rio/accent came in manual but were usually strippers with no options whatsoever.
