I think a large number of folks who voted for Trump really voted against the excesses of the left. They may think abortion is ghastly but do not support outlawing it. They don't want to return to the days of women seeking back alley procedures that risk their lives. They think the immigration system is completely broken and want a sensible, controllable method for people to immigrate. They don't want the government to simply print as much money as they want to. There has to be some sensible budgetary process that trims some of the waste and fat away without making people starve or shutting off essential services. We should have a strong, robust military that would give any potential enemy pause. But, the cost of doing that shouldn't be the enrichment of every defense contractor in these United States. Every citizen has the right to vote and should not be in any way hampered from doing so. But, non-citizens have no right to vote and there should be safeguards to prevent this and ample punishment for those caught doing so. Those are just a few easy examples. One side wants to force charity upon us and the other morality. Each of these is an individual's decision and not the governments.

What he still fails to realize is that his "base" is very small. The anti-communists, anti-socialists, anti-Hillary-ites are much, much bigger. His grasp on them is tenuous at best.

Actually, I. think is base (as far as people that actually vote) is quite larger. He has the potential to win again, with them.... as long as he doesn't make the people that are typically non-voters so mad enough to get up off their buts and do something they typically don't do. I think he's failing at that.

The difference is that, IMO, more than half of the people who did and possibly will vote for Trump do not identify themselves as being in his base. They had to hold their noses, to varying degrees, when it came time to vote for him. I think his actual base is small. His potential voter pool, though, is quite large.

Trump could've had my vote. There are lots of things that I agree with on his platform.... but he simply doesn't know how to explain his platform without looking like a douche. I mean, if he said "illegal immigration is a really bad problem. It's a burden on our law enforcement, it's a burden on the resources on our nation." Who can disagree with that? But when he says "illegal Mexicans are the problem, they're rapist, murders, and drug dealers," he's immediately turned me off, because he's playing towards identity. Same thing with his travel ban. There are infinitely better ways to make your point. I reject that Trump isn't a politician and doesn't know how to talk. I think he knows exactly what he's saying and chooses his words carefully.

Close enough, my "D" was for dumb

    Funny,
every time I see these players take a knee in protest the first word that comes to mind is, how DUMB.
Obviously the player IQ requirements have been lowered waay too much over the years. The best thing the NFL can do is raise these requirements at least back to were they used to be.

You give him far more credit than I do. Once again I was forced to pick from two candidates who I found to be personally despicable. I didn't vote "for" anyone, I voted against the unbridled excesses of radical liberalism and the precipitous slide towards socialism/communism.

You haven't watched too many interviews from the 50's, 60's and 70's.

Are you talking about the wonderlic? Because I'm pretty sure there has never been a player IQ requirement. Incidentally, Colin Kaepernick scored fairly high.

I've held my nose EVERY election.

IQ requirements? When has an IQ test ever been a prerequisite for playing in the NFL?

Not sure why you bring that up but, in the few interviews I have seen with him, he seems like a very sharp young man.

Kap is a genius. He's very successfully turned a fledgling career into a political beehive. It turned a washed up player into a household name. Right up there with Che Guevara.

Guy who protests nonviolently = murdering revolutionary communist. Yep, I can see the similarities.

Why wear the shirt then. And why wear it in Miami, of all places? It's not a good idea to wear that shirt anywhere in the free US, but if there is a worse place in America to wear it, Miami would probably be that place.
