    Excellent advice from the Chief.

I would add don't leave your stuff unsecured and out for the world to see. Every serious burglary (not the drunk kid stealing hats out of a car in a garage--this is the same kid that LPD shot 5 times with a taser) I've had is scouted before hand.

Lock your stuff up. I am always shocked at the number of cases where people just walk in (to the house, garage, mini-barn, etc.) and take stuff.

Buy good locks and maintain them. You need dead bolts. I recommend Medeco.
