I dont need Harry Potters cloak of invisibility, all I have to do is stand at the counter a cabelas, then woosh,I'm invisible! If they are experimenting with efficiency at gun counter, try HIRING MORE PEOPLE! Or TELL THEM TO QUIT STANDING AROUND BSing AND HELP SOMEONE! I almost walked out the other day and left my purchase on the floor. I've been a card holder for a while now, but am considering a divorce.

I was there about a month ago and saw no sign that said I had to ask permission to approach the gun counter. Their prices are high but they do have some good sales. I bought a New Henry 22 rifle that was onsale for $229. I had a coupon that I got in the mail for $20 off a $150 purchase so that meant I got the rifle for $209 + tax.
My only gripe was that it took me about 45 minutes to leave with the rifle...and there was only 3 people in front of me waiting for their guns.

45 minutes. Have you read the thread about washington DC reporter Emily Miller. She's been waiting since Oct (I think).

Fondled an AR at Cabelas tonight. Salesman let me take a good long look at it while he wrote up a sale for someone else. Anyone ever heard of the company Black Rain? He said they just started carrying them. $1799 and they are definitely proud of their brand name, as they stickered it all over the rifle. Very, very pretty, though. Gonna have to learn more about this brand first, though, before even considering such a purchase. Nothing else exciting there tonight, though. A kid had been playing with the ropes and disconnected a bunch, so it was easy to get to the counter. :D

Yea, the ropes kind of flip my off switch. I have not been in there since they put them up. When I go in to pick up my M&P 9c that I bought from buds, if they ask why I purchased elsewhere, I think I will just turn and point to the ropes and say "those turn me off".

WHY in the world would you transfer a firearm through Cabelas?

'cuz they're cheaper than Blythes and they don't lie to you. One of my friends used to use them for transfers and was always happy with the experience. Then I told him about Front Toward Enemy.... =)

Cabellas is my go to spot to buy ammo, I check out what ever guns I may be interested in purchasing there and if something catches my eye and its on a good sale, ill buy from them. Otherwise I take advantage of the internet... I wish I had a decent local shop to support, but as of now I do not...

from dyer, just take main all the way over the blvd. to the road right before broad street. i stop in there from time to time on my way home from work, since i live just on the other side of 30 right down cline. ammo prices are pretty decent and they had some good deals when the road was all tore up with construction

I can see both sides. On the one hand, it is not a community in which I would have much confidence in the goodness of the average denizen. On the other hand, anyone who both wants my money and wants to treat me like a criminal can go take a long walk off a short pier.

I have a bad taste in my mouth from blythes. I was in there looking at an 870 police they had for for 479. I was a good boy and didn't buy it. I told my wife about it and she wanted to suprize me with it so she went and told them she wanted to buy the 870 police they had. She knows nothing about guns so all she said she wanted was the 870 police. They sold her an 870 express 7 shot for $479. And I know for sure I was looking at the police and I even questioned the price because it was such a deal...they took advantage of her and it has bothered me ever since.

Just purchased a gun there today. No issues. When the store is really busy they are a little harder to deal with. The Gun Library (long gun cases) are always open and you can look at anything. The pistols (for obvious reasons) are locked up and you have to ask. I get about 4 guns a year from them and never a issue. Most of the used guns I buy are way below actual value. As for new guns??? a bit high. The key with Cabelas is the discounts cards they send out. You have to use them on sale items and then you can get a great deal. Ammo is so so?? Most times even when its on sale its cheaper at other places.

Blythes in Griffith or Valpo? While the stores are owned by the same family they run independent of each other and it seems the Valpo store is better in terms of customer service and not taking advantage of one while the griffith location has more guns.

Love Cabela? no. Like having it around. yes.
Ammo is all over the board on prices, but I routinely get the calibers I need at prices better than anywhere else I have found.
Last week, target shotgun shells for $45 a case as an example.
    S&B 9mm for $10 a box a couple months ago.
I could go on, but as for the constant complaints about prices, I just don't see it. I routinely see the same prices on new and used guns that I do at other shops and at shows.
The counter thing seems to be an ever evolving cluster F ever since that manager got popped for all those disappearing firearms. The triple check of paperwork and manager approval sucks, but they got burned big time, so I understand.
I have had mixed success in the gun library getting discounts off the used prices, but it definately depends on how long the gun has been there.
With sales an coupons, they can be impossible to beat. I got a sig p238 for 100 less than anyone would sell it to me with a coupon. Same for an M&P AR15.

    It was griffith

Figures... I don't personally know the history between the 2 stores other than it's 2 brotehrs that run them. From what I have read, heard and see/interations the brother that runs griffith is not very "customer service savy" as the one in valpo.

The athomsphere in the 2 stores is different as well. Can't really pin-point it but it is.

Interesting perspective. I have had much better interaction with Griffith versus Valpo.........I only have two years here....but my 2 cents (Nothing bad about Valpo - I just think Griffith is the best I have seen!!

My experience this week with Cabelas was very positive.

However while browsing I will say the prices are on average pretty high.

But last week they had a sale on a firearm that I wanted so I called them - and they were very helpful and friendly.

They put it on lay away at the sale price (I'm in Indy but had to be up North this week for work) ((had it not been on SALE - they advised that they'd just hold it))

I walked in Monday and filled out the on line form , paid the balance of my lay away - and walked back out in about 25 minutes total.

I was in Cabelas last week to pick up a Hi Point carbine they had on sale. In and out. Everything went quick and actually filling info out on the computer was pretty slick. Also liked that after buying the weapon, they put tape around the box so I could finish shopping and not need an escort down stairs to the parking lot. Actually had a manager discuss what other reloading items I would like to see in the store. At least he was attempting to make improvements.
