Getting a LE discount from a dealer is OK, However using a Police Letterhead from a department not paying excise tax and having the Chief of police signing it is another. It used to be if reselling a LE only firearm it had to go to LE only. A lot of what ifs and I am not a lawyer, I just think it's not worth it. This thread has covered all the bases quite well and that's why I join in. Thanks. members.
I know this may not be to the same extent of relievency but the second handgun I bought many years ago was a glock 19 from my Army Seargent which was gifted to him by his brother who was a state trooper. Everything was fine except the magazines were LEO only mags and this was during the ban, I didnt really think anything about it antil my local gun shop owner brought it to my attention. I could have got in trouble as well as the trooper. This is sorta the same issue. Just to be safe save a few bucks more and buy one for yourself.
wow ,I didnt think of the tax angle part of the purchase or if your buddy could have repercussions because of it & ruin a career.I always check the individuals license to carry when making or purchasing a firearm & like having a receipt to show the transaction
In a reality how much would you save? $50? Maybe more... If $50 extra out of your pocket would break the bank maybe the handgun should not be bought at this time. M2Cs!
