    Ouch. Let that be a lesson about making sure your rifle is empty prior to using a bore sighter.

    I saw the very same thing done with a M16 and a cleaning rod. Marine walked away from it, then to the brig and discharged. Destruction of government property.

    Seriously? Was it a training / combat accident or intentional?
    I can't see them hanging someone out to dry over an accident. :dunno:
    OK it's the .gov folks - so maybe.

    Yep, it was training overseas right before a deployment. It was suspected that he intentionally did it. The dude had some issues and the Corps took the opportunity to weed one out. I just was glad he was way down the line and not my responsibility. I was working as an RSO at the time, I would like to think I would catch that but you never know. The RSO responsible got an article 15. The Corps is a tough crowd when it comes the safety.:D

    That pic is as old as the hills, and there is NO WAY the guy in the last pic sustained such injuries from that rifle. I can't recall any details but that pic is probably close to 10 years old. :twocents:

    I believe it was August of 1999 when VUPD blew his rifle up:D
