If you are wanting to leave a rifle in truck while you are driving around checking the fields and what not I would say a full size with a folding stock. But I wouldn't leave it in the truck overnight, people do like to steal things!!

No one is leaving anything overnight. The question wzs more about handiness. Though it's good thinkinb on your part.

    +1 for caution

I think the perfect truck gun is a Ruger Gunsite Scout.

But, I guess it all depends on where you're truck is going to be. If it's over in Haughville, I'd take a couple of AK's. If it's on a farm, any old rifle will do.

    A cheap 12 gauge shotgun.

-A 12 gauge can take down any man or beast in North America.
-They are effective out to 100 yards (further than most people will need a self-defense/utility firearm)
-They are cheap and reliable (you can find used 870's or 500's for $200 or less).
-For up-close civilian self-defense situations their effectiveness can't be matched.

If it were me, I'd use a lever .44 Mag, but between the ones you mentioned, I'd take the fullsize AK with the folding stock. I don' know why anyone would ever choose a pistolized rifle if you had space for a real rifle.

    x2.

Its a truck. You should have room for a real rifle. A "pistol" version does nothing that the rifle won't do, but the rifle is significantly easier to shoot accurately at any distance.

Agreed, for anything at 'combat range', a properly loaded 12 ga. is about the most ferocious weapon you can raise on a target.
