    according to Encarta, tactical means:
    1. of tactics: relating to or involving tactics
    2. as means to end: done or made for the purpose of trying to achieve an immediate or short-term goal
    3. showing skillful planning: showing skillful planning in order to accomplish something
    4. military with limited military objective: used to support limited military operations

    According to the above definitions, any product/equipment with the "tactical" label on it really does not relate to tactics and is not, by definition, tactical.

    "tactical" is used as a marketing term meaning "used by personnel who operate at the tactical level of war." It's pretty effective in selling expensive stuff to mall cops, posers, and lots of people who wouldn't know operational from strategic if it carpet bombed their neighborhood.

    The "post things that shouldn't have the word tactical in the name" thread

    Man I get sick of hearing this word, seems like everyone tries to label any random weapon as being tactical just to get attention.

    I'll start

    Rock Island "Tactical" 1911 - it wasn't considered "tactical" (quoted because it really no longer has a real meaning....like the nobel peace prize) 60 years ago and it sure hasn't changed much. Not to mention there surely is not anything special about that particular weapon.

    Wouldn't hurt to put a short explanation after either. Post as many as you can think of:yesway:
