OK. I've talked about how key education is in various things.
I've pointed some folks in the right direction in becoming politically active, and I've done a wee bit of educating here and there (if you can find it amongst my ramblings! :p )

I'm a little curious to see how our members do. If you don't want to add your name, please at least vote to show your score. (note that one question has a formerly correct answer that is out of date. I told them about it.)

I got a 45. The main trouble I had was with a few of those quotes and the date of the Magna Carta. Cool quiz though, it's sad so few Americans couldn't even answer half the questions on here. Thanks for the post! :)

I did better than the "average" for my age and gender -- I got 36. I completely blanked on anything to do with Truman, Johnson and Ford. And I missed the number of voting members of the House by -->1<-- *grr*.

    Close only counts in horseshoes.

19,704 people have taken The Great American Civics Quiz at BBHQ.
    The average score is 33.
The average for males is 36 - for females, it is 31.
Broken down by age, here are the averages:
    under 18: 22.2
    18-35: 34.1
    36-54: 37.9
    over 54: 37.8

Anyone ever tried to take the test to become an American Citizen? It's been a while (like, 15 years or so) since I looked at it, but I remember it being *tough* even for someone who was taking a US Government class.

Seven people have taken it and posted their scores. Four of you have spoken up about it so far. Congratulations to all of you and to those who have not yet seen or have not yet taken the quiz but will do so, for taking a step to bettering yourself and our nation.

Next question: What are you going to do about your score and your knowledge level? :)

I'm impressed that the things that seem to be tripping people up are less important- That you put in Pres. Johnson's middle initial, that you can't identify the source of a presidential quote, or that you miss the number of voters in the Congress by only one number-these are not vital issues.

I've shown this test to others and had them ID the three branches of government as the House, the President and the Congress.:rolleyesedit:

Keep 'em coming, folks! :): :patriot:

    52. They have the wrong answer for the AG. They still show Ablerto Gonzalez, the correct answer is Michael Mukasey unless there is something I don't know (Senate hasn't approved yet or something like that). Didn't get the last one.

Got 43. I forgot about Johnson, had a brain fart on the voting members of the Senate and put 50, missed a couple of quotes and left the attorney general question blank because I couldn't remember Mukasey's name, but knew it wasn't Gonzalez. Oh well

According to our gradebook, you got 48 right; and you left 2 blank.

I misspelled Lyndon Johnson (and I'm from Texas ouch)
And Alberto Gonzales is not the current AG.

When wat the Magna Carts signed?

    44. But would have gotten 2 more if spelling had not done me in.

I got a 32.5. Should have been a few more...I transposed the Senate and House terms and skipped right over a handful.

I KNOW I should know more.
