More to the point why do you buy certain models of handguns. I suspect many of us buy a gun just to tinker with. I was talking with some mods at the recent Bradis event and it occurred to me that often we mod our guns just to mod them.
I have seen threads where comments are made akin to great gun but do to lack of after market parts I got rid of it or passed on it. One such victim of this train of thought is the FNP from FHN.

Do we shun certain models just because we cant mod them? Are we passing on some very good handguns just because we cant tweak them? Are all these tweaks really necessary or are we just caught up in it? Its great to be an American and its great to live in a country where we have such a variety of handguns and materials / modifications available. But stop and think, do we just get caught up in it? Am I speaking blasphemy, should we continue to tweak just for the sake of tweaking? Are we out of control with all these tweaks and modifications available? Or should I just set down and shut up?
I have to admit I wonder about some of the tweaking I have done. I bought a Glock 22 with night sights because I shot it so well. It was a great gun right out of the box. But then I put a 3.5 connector in it, then the extended mag release. It was fine before, but now it was my precious.
I have a FNP9 and with the exception of perhaps changing the sights sometime in the future I dont feel the need to mod it at all.
I bought a S&W M&P Pro model specifically instead of the standard because it had the trigger mods and particular sights I wanted already installed, that way I didn't have to mess with it. As I get older Im far less into tweaking my guns.
When is it time to back away from the accessories and say, hey its good enough? Im sure it will be easy to admit we have all bought guns specifically because there was so much aftermarket tweaks for it. But then how many guns have we passed on because of the lack of mods available.
