In another shocking discovery, the company that provided a forum to allow others to cheat was further cheating their customers. As noted above, only a small percentage of the female accounts were real. But what of the fake accounts? Many (if not most) of them weren't simply idle accounts that men could look at and send messages to with no response. Ashley Madison actually created bots to send millions of messages to men and create the illusion that women were easily available. The hacker group that is thrashing AM has released the source code for public scrutiny. Can you say fraud?

Nobody is to blame except those that willingly signed up. You show me somebody that was FORCED to sign up and I might just care.

Another layer of uh-oh for Ashley Madison members. AM account passwords have been cracked and will soon be released.

Some advice to minimize impact if you should be one of those members. Please change your password on AM. Also, if you use the same password anywhere else, please change it on those other sites to something different. Guaranteed the hackers will try and use the login info from AM on Twitter, Facebook and other sites and they will gain access on a certain percentage and own those accounts.

And they arent the only ones. Classmates.com got dinged for fraud as well many years ago while facebook was in its infancy/college only days. It resulted in a class action suit that they lost. If you had a free account, you could see some of the site, but couldnt communicate with others. They would send emails to free subscribers telling them that they had an email waiting for them from another user on the site. After you paid your fee and gained access to your inbox, you would find it empty. They were defrauding users into paying them money to see messages that didnt exist. Unfortunately the settlement was a joke. 6 months free access. pffff... what about those of us that just wanted our money back for that year of access we didnt need?

Back in the day during my bachelor days I tried several matchmaking sites. One (I wish I remember which) was known for staff initiating communications with members during the last 48-72 hours of membership, enticing them into deciding to renew again. Of course after renewal the potential match would go dark and never communicate with you again. It happened to me twice and I figured out what was going on.

    Scum. The lot of them.

I downloaded the torrents containing all the "hacked" info. What I found most were huge text files so I put together a parser that could extract desired information. Zip codes were very telling and for fun I found the names and address of all 178 people in my zip code that had paid for services. Three women, 1 maybe, and the rest males. I downloaded another zip code for a friend and it was 5% female.

Wow. You care way more than I do about what people do behind closed doors.

Anymore I think it's buyer beware on your personal information being stolen from online sites. Hackers will always be better than the security used to keep them out. I think you need to show gross negligence in security to lose a lawsuit now, but who knows what it takes to win something like that.

Said it before, I will say it again..

If you were STUPID enough to use an existing email address to sign up for a cheating site, and escort site, a porn site, etc. You deserve to get caught.
