* sigh * … the master is correct ...I'm new to this type of rifle shooting and am still easily impressed. I lost focus there … forgetting that it is the rifleman, not the rifle that produces results like this.
I will retire to my rifleman’s corner now to continue perfecting my own skills.
Master nothing I can say that with confidence because I keep all my AQTs. Over the last three years I have shot dozens of AQTs with my rifles and borrowed rifles. I have used a 10-22 with tech sights, a 10-22 with a 3x scope, a 795 with tech sights, a CZ with factory irons, and a Stevens with a 4x scope. I've used M60s with a 1X scope, 597s with irons and scopes, bolt actions, even a pump.
If you lay out all my targets and check the scores you will see that my highest scores are evenly distributed across all rifle and sight types. Weather matters a little, I shoot better in the cold. Time of day has some effect, I am more relaxed and have better NPOA trust later in the day (when I am tired?). But overall I shoot just as well with a stock rifle as I do with a tricked out rifle. On one really good day, I shot my $129 tech sighted 795 side by side with a $2500 scoped custom Kidd package and they both shot a round, 1 hole, 2 MOA group.
If you can consistently shoot a 240+ score, money will help you get another 10 points, by buying better ammo. But money can not buy you the first Rifleman score. There is no shrink wrapped, bubble packed, bolt on solution, and skill cannot be purchased on aisle 9 in "shooting accessories". This requires something many Americans are not used to, commitment.
