How? Where?? Do any of them function?

They can be find all over Normandy, in other parts of France and generally anywhere in Europe since it was such a large battlefield.
Not all are found in the ground, that's why some are in better shape.

I assume they don't work (again they are not mine)
Some might work, like a gun found right after the war and kept inside a family from generation to generation.
Heck some people still find tanks in old barns. :dunno:

    1. On patrol in Vietnam I found a M72 LAW (Light Anti-tank Weapon). End caps missing but rocket still in position. 2. My buddy, while on patrol found an ammo cache in the mountains of Nam. and picked up a SKS for me. I still have it. 3. Rented a car once and found a .22 in an ankle holster. Gave to customs officer at airport ( I was a pilot back then). I got it back. 4. Driving down Bluffton Road in Ft Wayne and spotted a handgun, a .380 semi auto I think, in middle of the street. I didn't touch it but called 911. An officer came and took it. I didn't get it back.

Two different times at a members only range east of Brookston I have found guns left behind on the bench. Also countless mags and holsters. Both guns were picked up before I left. Mags and holsters left in clubhouse.

I was trashing out a house for a bank and found a neglected S&W model 29.

Took it to a LEO that I know and had him run the numbers on it. Just to be sure. Came back clear. Shoots fine now, looks a little nasty. I need to get it coated and some of the pits filled in.

Found a cap and ball pistol one time as well. I get excited when I start finding ammo, but those were the only two firearms that someone left.

I read that and thought of this....

    That is actually pretty realistic.
You have people with large WW2 gun collection like that, and mines like that are still found often along the French coast and on beaches.
    Even to this day.

Not something I would dig up and bring to my garage to add to my collection though. :):

Found this is an old Barn.. Now the sad part was it was laying on the ground on a pile of wood splinters that was once the stock.. The wood is so brittle that when you look at it, parts of it fall off.. I did gather up all the wood splinter to try to glue the stock back together.. But fortunately my dear selfless bride pointed out you can not keep everything and how people who do keep everything live lonely love-less lives.

Now thats being blessed when some one cares enough to save you from folly.

1918 or 1944 ... I guess there is no way to tell.
I bet it would work just fine if you spray a can of WD40 on it. :D

Actually, there is. That is a 1911, not a 1911A1, as evidenced by the long trigger, the absence of relief cuts in the frame behind the trigger, and the straight mainspring housing.
