I played professional paintball for about 3 years, but other than that I havent done much. I got into paintball really heavily in high school and didnt have time for much else. I have travelled to almost all the states, Canada, and Aruba to play. It was fun but now I am 1-past my prime in that sport and 2-LAZY.

I'll begin by saying runners are nuts, particularly those who run marathons. I have seen it: it is madness incarnate.

So, would Triathlons be 3x as crazy, or 1/3 as crazy?
    Tris are my sport now.
In the past I've been through phases of raquetball and golf (discuss: is a golfer an athlete?).
But tris are contributing to my overall health and well-being in ways that I've never had before. Might almost say this is the first time I've found a sport that really 'took.'

I will say that I went from throwing out my back to deadlifting 315 in 2 years.

I've never had any back problems, but people that I know have described them to me and it doesn't sound fun...In other words, that's impressive.:yesway:

I was able to squat that much 25+ times at one point...Man, how times have changed.

I need to get back into shape. I doubt I could deadlift 315 lbs 1 time right now, let alone squat it.

I've done an obstacle course run (and plan to do more). I used to throw discus competitively in HS, now I try to get out and throw for fun.

I have mastered the art of man to hand combat, but have declined to compete in any sacntioned events...

Martial Arts: Indiana State Champion (weapons, kata, and kumite, age/wt div.) 2006-2009, Regional Nat'l Champion (weapons, kata, and kumite, age/wt div.), 2007-2009. Best performance was in 2008 Int'l Karate Tournament in Athlone, Ireland, 1st place weapons, 1st place kata, 3rd place kumite (I lost kumite to the Romanians, but creamed them in weapons).

And yes, I love to brag about it. :D

Congrats big time. It take a lot of time and practice

    Define "athlete"

I won myself a trophy at a bench/deadlift comp back April. Then I moved, got lazy and weak. I'm hoping to get back out on the platform again in a few months.

That's about as close to being an "athlete" as I've been since high school many years ago (wrestling, soccer, shot put/discus, and tennis, wasn't particularly good at any of them though)

If you did that then you are an athlete.

Within the first five seconds of my first race I discovered two things. One., I was never going to win. Two, the only person that I was competing against was..myself.
