Sorry guys but college has been a B***h this week. Accelerated classes mean a test just about every week and the Excel test I took today was Hard even though I studied every available minute, and Thursday won't be much better but some time Friday I Promise! I NEED A BREAK! writing gives me a little escape. Probably write something Friday, then maybe I'll go take out my frustration and stress on some Evil Paper targets!

One of you is right about the copper!

[FONT=&quot]The camera man in the news helicopter continued to film the carnage as we all looked at the screen in shock and horror as what had just taken place began to quickly sink in that it was real and not some kind of reality show. The lead vehicle had nearly made it across the bridge and had the back half of it completely blown away. To me this suggested that it may have tripped a mechanical trigger to ensure as much of the convoy was on the bridge, however a lookout with good timing could have accomplished the same thing. It was difficult to distinguish the other vehicles that had been on the bridge but from memory and the debris it looked as if there had been 2 deuces and a half’s and another hummer I don’t think anyone survived. The next two were also big trucks and were on fire. As the camera panned further down I counted six more vehicles burning, and there was a flurry of activity already happening to try to take care of the injured. I caught a glimpse of a fire in the near distance which was probably caused by at least one RPG miss. I searched my memory and I think I had seen 4 pickups trying to escape with 2 in each that made eight attackers so maybe two of the rockets missed their targets. The raw footage vivid and hard for some of us to watch, because of the ground being littered with body parts and painted with blood soot from the burning vehicles.

[FONT=&quot]. “Bob we’re going to have to land” the reporter continued. “The pilot thinks we might have taken some minor damage, and we’ll see if we can render any assistance”. The image on the screen descended like an elevator then broke up and disappeared as the antenna on the could no longer transmit as it landed. “We will try to bring you more of this developing story as soon as the helicopter becomes airborne and can begin transmitting again” said the obviously shaken news anchor. He began to start talking about other problems around the city, but no one in my house was listening. There was mostly crying for the soldiers that had been killed and murmurs of what the frak do we do now!

    CHAPTER 5
    Washington

Speaker Truman Grant had finally found a few moments to himself after succeeding in getting the initial round of aid organized and on its way to the various stricken locations. He had very little sleep since the earthquake had hit, but he was too wound up to sleep. And it was still a very bright sunny day. Maybe some booze would help. He summoned one of the White House kitchen staff and asked where the liquor cabinet was. Adult beverages were always served at the few White House functions he had been invited to but that had always been supplied by the kitchen staff. He had no idea where the Presidents had kept their private stock of liquor. To his surprise the staffer informed him that all alcohol was kept locked in the kitchen to ensure that no youngster of a White House guest or the President’s own two young daughters could gain access to it. But he would be happy to bring him any drink he desired. “A whiskey sour would be fine” he told him. “I’ll bring it right away sir”.

Truman began gazing out the window again surveying what minor damage that the city had suffered, when there was a knock at the door to the Oval Office. “Come in” he instructed. When he turned around he saw the Head of homeland Security walking towards him. His face was grim and Truman knew he did not have good news, but how much worse could it get.

“Mr. Speaker I’m afraid I have some bad and disturbing news Sir”. Truman sighed and then took a deep breath “What is it now?” “I’ve just received word from the Defense Department that the convoy from Wright Patterson has been attacked near New Castle Indiana”. “WHAT?” exclaimed Truman? “We don’t have many details yet but we’ve lost around a dozen vehicles and an unknown number of dead and wounded”. “Why in the hell would anyone attack the aid convoy?” “We really can’t be sure right now but we’ve ruled out that it was just a bunch of local thugs. Communications from the escorting helicopters indicate that RPG’s were used. And while it’s not impossible for some local gang to get a hold of these weapons it would be extremely unlikely. The prevailing theory of the Defense Department and the CIA is that it was Terrorists.” “How sure are they.” “Right now it’s just a strong hunch since there has been increased chatter and a new code we’ve never seen on the normal channels used by them”. “What would Terrorists be doing in New Castle Indiana”? “Probably hiding in plain sight Sir, small town no real targets there, but close enough to attack two major cities, Indianapolis and Dayton.” “Crap that’s all we need right now damn it. If it is Terrorists I want every available resource of the CIA on this thing and track every possible lead down, and find out who’s giving the orders” “We’re pretty sure if it is Terrorists the signals are coming out of the Afghan/Pakistan border area but, we can’t pinpoint where. They seem to be able to relay their signals to various dishes throughout the region.”

“I guess we’ll have to put a halt to the troop withdrawal to deal with this instead of using them here for aid and rebuilding”. “No sir we don’t.” He paused for several moments as if he was having second thoughts about what he was going to do next. We don’t have to, there is another option. It wasn’t originally designed for this purpose. But with minor modifications it is an alternative since our manpower is being stretched to the limit.”
The Homeland Security Chief reached under his sport coat and produced a well-worn plain looking file folder. It was stuffed with a variety of old and new papers. It was stamped in two places, one was very faded but the words TOP SECRET was still easily readable. Nearly stamped over it and obviously newer were the words EYES ONLY, and in the middle was the hand printed title “Operation After Life”. Truman reached out and received the package from the chief, flipped quickly through the pages and after several minutes finally said “What the hell is this?”

The office of the President pro tempore was the largest office of any senator, since he was the fourth most powerful man in the country. Some would argue he was the third because a senator has a six year term and the house members only two. Regardless George Washington Lincoln had the biggest budget of any senator and he used every penny to make the office a shrine to its power. Its walls were decorated with Lincoln’s law degree from Syracuse University. And many other honorary degrees, certificates of appreciation, and other things that politicians pick up in their career for making sure post offices and buildings get named for big political contributors who have given back to society

Senator Lincoln was pacing back and forth across the back of his office talking on his cell phone and smoking a fine Gran Habano cigar, even though the senate office building was officially a smoke free building. Guns Donaldson let himself in as he usually did and went to the back where his boss was still talking intently on his phone. Guns walked over to the Senator’s humidor and selected a Hoyo de Monterrey for himself; they were his favorite and the Senator always kept a supply on hand just for him, and after preparing it with the sterling silver cigar cutter he lit it and settled back into fine soft leather recliner and began puffing on his stogie as he waited for the Senator to finish his conversation. Finally after Guns had nearly half of his cigar finished Senator Lincoln pushed the end call button on his smart phone and looked at Guns and smiled.

“Well Guns my friend our boy may have stepped in it. That was my contact inside the Defense Department the convoy out of Ohio was just attacked by what probably was a sleeper cell of terrorists. We lost a bunch of equipment and Men. I should be able to put some heat on him for that one. There’s been an increase in chatter on the terrorists network and while he was informed, his staff blew it off. That should make for some real good fodder for the news boys. How are you doing with our other job”.

“Well” Guns began “My friend got me the laptop I needed and I was able to hack in to the hospital’s network I changed a decimal point on one of the meds they are using to keep him in a medically induced coma. I’ve reactivated and made a new key card for a nurse that was fired about two weeks ago for medical errors that nearly cost two sailors their lives. He’s about my size so when I sneak in tonight to administer the fatal dose, it will at first look like a medical error. But of course you’ll call for an investigation, and then you’ll find this guy has a weak alibi, because I’m going to drug him at his apartment for the night. Then I’ll borrow his clothes and make sure I’m seen, from the back of course entering the hospital and the president’s room while the guards are having a little cup of coffee spiked with Chloral Hydrate. Then I’ll administer the fatal dose and walk out. And during your investigation you’ll find a large sum of money was just transferred into his checking account. And finally I’ll plant this laptop in his apartment with the enough hidden data on it to link it back to the White House!”

“Brilliant my old friend” said the Senator slapping Donaldson on the back. “Soon I’ll be President, and you’ll be my Chief of staff! This calls for a celebration how does a few drinks and a Fillet Mignon sound and one of Washington’s finest restraints sound to you?” “Great” Guns replied. “But let’s do it tomorrow I never drink before a job”. “Oh you’ve got it planned for tonight?” “No time like the present, plus it will add to our boys stress with the attack happening today, maybe he’ll frak up again!”

“So that’s Operation After Life Mr. Speaker” finished the Homeland Security Chief. Speaker Grant kept flipping through the rather extensive file of papers that had existed in that folder since the Reagan administration. Many of the papers were yellowed, faded and difficult to read. Ike Patton, the Homeland Security Chief, studied Speaker Grants facial expressions for any clue to what he might decide. Grant’s face went from surprise to puzzled to concerned and back again. Finally he put the contents of the folder down on the coffee table that was in the center of the oval office and paced over to the window and looked out again while Ike waited for some kind of response. After several more moments the speaker turned around to Chief Patton and said “Are you sure the technology will work?”

“As sure as we can be Mr. Speaker” replied Ike. “And there is always a rotation of submarines with these weapons thorough out the region. There are three in the rotation, one is always on its way out, the other is doing its 30 days on station and the other one is on its way back. All we’ll need is new coordinates.” “And you don’t have those yet do you” queried Grant? “No not yet sir, but we’re working on it. We may have to put some boots on the ground to find out where they are transmitting from.” “Do we have the people in place for such a ground mission?” “I’d have to check with the military to be for sure, but they are always doing these sorts of recon missions.” “I would prefer that we do it with conventional weapons and tactics” Truman stated. “Is there time to put such a mission together?” “That would depend on how soon you would want to implement the plan” Mr. Speaker. “No it really depends on the fraking terrorists and if they continue to attack us” replied Grant. “If they keep stinging us like they did in Indiana I’ll have no choice but to respond in some way.” He paused for several moments and then said:

“This is what I want for now, first get this whole thing verified that it was indeed terrorists that attacked the convoy out of Ohio. Second I want these signals nailed down. I want to know exactly where they are. Then have the military come up with a ground operation to take these bastards out! It needs to be an all-volunteer mission and they need to start training as soon as possible.” “Do you want them to be armed with same type of tactical weapons” asked Ike. Grant looked at him with a puzzled look. “What do you mean?” “I’m sorry Mr. Speaker I should have been a little more thorough with my overview and that you could not have read every single report in that file. We do have some of these warheads mounted on man portable Javelin missiles. I don’t believe we have and in theater right now but we could have them there in less than 24hrs. The Military would know that better that I do.” “We’ve got them that small?” Ike nodded. “Just tell me one thing, how the hell did we keep this from the Russians and the rest of the world there’s a test ban in place?” “It’s all in the report Mr. Speaker, but it was developed and tested deep underground at Groom Lake. Remember it has such a small explosive yield it won’t register on seismic monitors, and the radiation burst is so quick and intense it can’t be detected by satellites when it’s shielded by several hundred feet of earth.”

“How much danger is there to the troops in from the radiation if they are fired by the Javelins” asked Truman? “It all depends on how close they have to be when they fire them. There is a special inoculation we can give them that offers a great deal of protection, but it is not fully known just how well it really protects.” “Then that’s all the more reason that I want this to be an all-volunteer mission. Ike get the ball rolling on this, I want some kind of plan in 24 hrs.” “That will be a tall order Mr. Speaker for such a complex mission”. “I just want an outline the details can be worked out as we go, I have a feeling this is going to be a very fluid and ever changing situation. Flexibility will have to be the most important aspect to this operation, get it done Ike!”
