There are reports that Kimber's "II" series has reliability problems. I've never talked to anyone personally who's experienced them, but there it is.

I'm a big fan of the 1911, but I'm also a fan of the Glock. The 1911 is like a lady that you take out for dinner and dancing. The Glock is a cheap whore who likes to be spanked. I say there's fun to be had either way.

I have a custom II....can shoot wolf, brass, etc. with NO ftf or any other malfunction.

same here!! lmao!! Couldn't of said it any better myself. I use to own a G30 and I did really like it, but traded it for an even nicer springfield 1911 that I like even more. I plan on buying another glock sometime in the future though. In fact when I get the money I have my eye on a nice 21c at a local shop that is just calling out to me. :D

I do think they got the list pretty well right though.

Rceived my new American Rifleman mag. the other day...
1911 named top handgun of all time.
    S&W hand ejector revolver second.
    Glock 17 third.
I'm not trying to start a Haterade drinking festival here.
    Your thoughts?

I agree with number one, not so sure about three though.

    maybe that can help?

I remember that one. I was there. It was pretty sad. You know how the glock guys hate the myths about glocks being made of cheap plastic, and that they melt if you leave them in your car and that sort of thing? Well, for the 1911 guys it's the reliability myth that puts a burr in our saddle. That thread was rife with myths. You have to "tune" one to get it to run. They won't feed hollow points out of the box. Just general misinformation like that.

Anyway, about the american rifleman article. I don't agree with the entire list but they did nail number one. I enjoyed reading the little right ups about each gun. We could debate the ranking all day, but overall it was good article.

    I saw this as well.

Mysteriously, the 1911 earned nearly TWICE the points of the #2 gun.

    The list was:
    1) 1911 - 92 points
    2) S&W hand ejector revolvers - 53 points
    3) Glock 17 - 41 points
    4) S&W No 1 (.22 short tip-up) - 33 points
    5) Volcanic repeating pistol - 31 points
    6) Colt Single Action Army - 31 points
    7) Walther PPK - 31 points
    8) Mauser C96 - 27 points
    9) Browning hi-Power - 25 points
    10) S&W "Registered Magnum" - 18 points

I don't know what there crazy point scale was based on, but its crap.

The Sig 210 & Mle 1935A are two of the most accurate, elegant, and well balanced service pistols of all time, and they weren't even mentioned... The CZ-75 is the most widely copied design of all time, and it wasn't mentioned.

In short, the list is bunk. :n00b:

They had several contributors make their own lists. A gun in first place received 10 points while a gun in 10th place received 1 point. The list was the result of the ten highest scoring guns. It was a good idea.

The thing is an instructor and gun guy I am not comfortable advising anyone to buy a 1911. The next question is which one. Lots of reliability issues with certain ones and different types of ammo. I don't have those concerns when recommending a Glock or CZ-75. Guns for self-defense should be like lawnmowers. Keep em full an oiled and expect them to work all the time.

Reads like a company ad for 1911s to me.
