I think you are being a little hard on the mgr. He needs that job and was just following company policy. If you think it's a stupid policy do as others have suggested, contact corporate and lodge your objections with them. :twocents:

No, it's called discretion. The manager could have exercised it. Instead, he chose to be a corporate drone and spew out "company policy" instead of simply asking to cover up. He has no problem with carry, with OC, with guns, but he can't think for himself.

I've been a manger and an owner of a business. I know what discretion I have in the roles. This guy was a tool.

OK, I'm not trying to debate you here, but for you to say you will continue to OC regardless. Well, you weren't OC'ing or CC'ing during the movie. OC as much as you want, I do. BUT REALIZE there are times to CC or not carry at all. Don't agree with me?...your experience today proved otherwise.

It's not that I don't realize that there are times to CC rather than OC. However it's the fact that per the state law that I am an fact allowed to OC to a movie theater. There for shouldn't have to CC just to keep carrying my weapon in the movie theater or any other store and place of business.

Yes it is your right, but apparently AMC also has rights AND they not only exercised them, but trumped yours. CC to the movie theatre and enjoy the movie.

I never said that they didn't have the right to have what ever company policy they desire. just that I disagree with that certain policy of not allowing firearms within their business. Their rights don't trump mine and my rights don't trump their's. To me they are both equal, the only reason I didn't just request my money back was the fact that I had a friend with me that I couldn't just leave there or ask to leave with me due to the fact that I openly carry a firearm. To me that would have been extremely rude of me to him seeing as how I was the one treating him to the movie.

If all theaters have a similar policy will you avoid theaters if you want to see a movie, or just CC?

Yes as a matter of fact I will avoid the movie theaters and just do what I normally do and download them to my computer for free. If they do not change their policy concerning not allowing Lawful and legal gun owners to carry in their theater.

It was just that with this movie, what it was about and what it means to not only the actors but people like me that have served this country. I felt that going to the theater and paying to see the movie, it was not only the right thing to do
but also that by doing so, that I was showing my support for not only the movie but the men and women that serve our countries armed forces.

As pointed out, i think its funny that someone complained at THAT movie. Any other movie, it would have been, ah, those whiny people, but at THAT movie????? I wonder if they complained to the movie makers about all the guns that were shown in there. Now, all that being said, it was a great movie, I enjoyed it. I will be going again soon to see it again. Still waiting on my license before I carry though.

:popcorn:Fantastic movie! We owe quite a lot to our soldiers :patriot:

I'm still very much new at owning a gun and am waiting on my LTCH, but why do people have such a problem with another person carrying a gun? I highly doubt that there are many people on this site that would just go around flashing their gun or waving it around. :draw:

At least it sounded like the worker there wasn't a tool and was pretty ok with the whole thing. Hopefully something gets changed with the policy, or at least get some better signs up so things are more clear.

Other than the members on this site and other's like us, I think it has to do with the mentality that only those within the Law-Enforcement community are allowed or should be allowed to carry guns out in public.

The :sheep: will continue to think and act in a way that the people in power want them too. they either don't realize or don't care to realize that but just mindlessly following the person with the loudest voice, that they are "IMO" just giving up on thinking for themselves.

Sucks to hear about the encounter at the movies. I always CC at the movies and mall. Just to avoid any confrontation with employees, etc. I completely understand your viewpoints on OCing everywhere you can/want. I OC in places I find gun friendly. Rural King in martinsville is OC central it seems like. No one has EVER said a word to me about OCing. Ive had multiple people stop and compliment/pet my GSD Emma while visibly seeing my handgun. When I see a person OCing in passing there it's a smile and a nod.

I've also never noticed a sign about fun prohibited on AMC theaters. I mainly go to the one by greenwood mall but still never noticed and even looked for one.

Me and my friend had just sat down and were waiting for the previews to end, when the Theater manager walked over to me and said that he had received a complaint about me carry a holstered gun on my person.

Sometimes people just need to mind their own freaking business. Another person attending the movies saw an individual carrying a firearm on their person, didn't like the sight of said firearm, and told the manager about the firearm and complained.

Now, perhaps this complainer even saw the OP get escorted out by the manager and come back without the firearm. So, it further emboldens this complainer to do it again and again, merely because they don't like the sight of a firearm. :noway:

Daddy Fix Semi, take a slightly further drive to one of Evansville's Showplace Cinemas. Been OCing there for a couple years and have never had a problem. I generally go to Showplace East at Green River and Morgan Ave.

Mind you it's been over 20 years, but my department had a policy against OC when out of uniform, for this very reason.

Thanks for the tip,, the reason's i had chosen that theater was for the fact that we were limited on time and I wanted to limit the amount of gas my truck drinks during a trip to Evansville due to the fact that my truck drinks a quarter tank of gas just going from Mt.Vernon to the west side of Evansville and then another quarter tank back.

yeah yeah I know I need a better gas saver but I love my truck to death so I'm keeping it. lol

So he really has no problem with you carrying, but because it's "company policy" he's just going to be a mindless drone and force you to either leave or return unarmed?

    Frackin' dolt.

No he is just a company man. It is his job to enforce company policy. If he would have done nothing and the issue gets worse - he is held responsible. He is a dolt if he truly disagrees and does nothing about it internally.

I agree with you hayseed, that's why I'm waiting to hear back from not just him but also AMC corp. before making a decision about giving them any more of my money.

Like I said before the manager was respectful and seemed sincere that he had to ask me to disarm while there. So I'm concerned I hold no fault against him, just the policy that AMC corp. has concerning the matter.

It sounds like you handled it well - wish you luck. I am just jealous that you actually can go to a movie theater. Cannot remember last movie I went to and my wife and I stayed awake through it all. The manager would have to have kicked me out for snoring not carrying.

Not to pick a fight, but you say you are being lawful and then you admit to stealing a movie online? Downloading a movie onto your computer for free is exactly the same as walking out of Wal-Mart with 14 movie dvds tucked under your shirt for "free". Just sayin. ;)

Re: Manager, the poor underpaid overworked manager is just doing his job. He's more concerned with being able to feed his family than anything else.

The manager did say that he was going to send an email concerning the matter to amc headquarters about the matter and that he would let me know if the policy would stand as is or if they would change it to allow for carry within their theaters.

Can you lets us know what their response is? I'm kind of wondering now how many theaters have policies like this.

I think we will have to agree to disagree, sounds like the manager did all that he felt comfortable with considering the company policy. The OP says all in all he couldn't have been nicer. I suspect in these days of high unemployment the gentleman didn't want to stick his neck out and was probably thinking about keeping his job. Just my two cents.
