After losing it for 3 weeks, the post office finally delivered my AKV.
I slapped an AK74 bulged handguard on it and a triangle brace. Then an exps3 g43 combo. Still waiting on the cone muzzle and traditional grip to arrive. Kind of going for a 9mm krink vibe. Really want to add an IR laser but I don’t want to give up the wood.

I picked up a Vepr in 308 recently. The previous owner had a PSL stock on it and an unfinished forearm from Rhineland with a picatinny rail wood screwed to it. The stock screws were sheared off and needed drilled out, and the fitting was kinda crude. I'm thinking of going with a buffer tube adapter on it.
As for the handguard, I refinished it this week. 2 coats of a dark walnut stain and a couple passes of shellac. I was going to smoothe it, but I kinda like it's current texture, so a little wax and I'll call it done.
    Obligatory before and after pics.

This is a double rivet bullet guide rifle, and was built using Tula parts but assembled at Circle 10

There is maybe 1k of these ?

Cool gun. Stock was installed by Matt Yeamans way back.

I thought Tula never manufactured the 74 in but an extremely small quantity at the start. They switched over to the 74su. From what I gather, most Russian non-civilian rear trunnions in the states are all Tula krink take offs, and any rolled strut/ribbed butt stocks are also from Tula’s. Flat struts/butts are Izzy’s and Izzy Folding trunnions are near impossible to find in the states. I have an Izzy 87’ and have been searching for some time.

There are a number of Bulgarian Aks74 made with Tula parts. When the Bulgarians began domestic production of the Aks they were supplied with recievers with trunnions and stocks. Most of them are 1991 production guns. Take a look at the attached screenshots.
The Bulgarians also had a number of overstamped Molot RPKs.

Edit: as the photo suggests its kinda a mixed bag. For example my rifle has a Tula trunnion and everything else appears to be Bulgarian. My rifle also has the older non-dimpled magazine release, despite being a later production gun.

I have two handguards for the vepr. One is Walnut, like the stock. The other is Cherry. I finished both with the same stain and shellac, but obviously the cherry took less of the oil based stain than the walnut and it led to a really pretty contrast with the stock. I can't choose between the color matched walnut or the bright handguard.
    Opinions?
