A pistol attached to a drone... this is probably an NFA violation, yeah?

I believe that's covered with the FAA rules of what is released from a aircraft.

And if the FAA (The FFA is "Future Farmers of America, not sure what they'd have to do with this. heh) wanted to press the issue and find out the real identities of who did this - those folks would be in a world of hurt for weaponizing a drone. Bad juju. Very bad juju.

These bloody things are a hazard to aviation enough as it is. I wonder whose great idea that is. Now the almost invisible to a pilot things are going to be shooting at them too.

Thanks for the post though, it's always good to know your enemy.

Not the first time this has been done... Several years ago (maybe 8-10) some guys put a registered automatic AK-47 on an RC-helicopter and shot in in full-auto while in-flight. It was pretty impressive how much it rocked the helicopter back...

Also, IIRC, there is no law restricting a person from doing this... of course the old adage of "play stupid games win stupid prizes" will apply here. When somebody does something stupid with such a setup there will probably be some pretty harsh backlash with all the media negativity drones are receiving these days.

I always thought we should have a moral discussion about allowing machines to decide when to kill people. Unfortunately, I think we'll walk across that line without any discussion at all. It will be possible, so it will be done and only after the bodies start piling up will anyone wonder how we got there.

Reminds me of Fred Saberhagen's Berserker series...

Went to a conference last winter and one of the topics was UAVs and legal issues. They must have told us 10 times that weaponizing our drones was a no no. Seriously it was on every other slide.

That discussion has been going on for a few decades.

That discussion has been going on for a few decades.

But not in the communities that will employ them or among the people developing the technology. Those groups seem to be saying it's a viable step to get around lost link procedures or frequency contested environments.

As opposed to the Small UAS rule this probably falls under the Section 336 Special Rule for Model Aircraft.

And I think it's probably WAY outside the 'set of safety guidelines'.

Not that that stops folks from flying them. Last week the USFS had to abort fire fighting efforts on a fire in CA because 'someone' was flying a couple of these things in the TFR. I'm sure the folks whose homes burned down don't have a problem with that at all...

As long as you don't point your 'laser' at an aircraft...that's a Federal offense. And if it's mounted on the head of a shark USFWS probably will look askance.
