I make a lot of fun of the tin foil hat crowd and all the various theories they put forward. But isn't ISIS and the "threat" they pose to you and me kinda convenient? First we get Al-Qaeda, they were scary and seriously hurt us as a country, not only physically, but in terms of freedom and civil liberties.

We kick their arse, begin to downsize our military, things are returning to pre-9/11 levels of normalcy, more and more people seem to be opening their eyes to the spectre of our shrinking freedoms. And all of the sudden, you get ISIS, Al-Qaeda 2.0. Scarier than version 1.0 in their radicalism and violence. They won't have to kill thousands of us to illicit a response because unlike version 1.0, they already have our attention.

Clinton and Bush are widely criticized for failing to recognize the threat Al-Qaeda posed to us. No president after them will be able to sit idly by and allow a group like this to grow.

I know, I know, back to my room...

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't think the Dear Leader will turn the place to glass, or DO anything for that matter. But the situation with ISIS WILL be made into a crisis, and you know our "leaders" can never let a good crisis go to waste.

My reply was to your comment that "No president after them will be able to sit idly by and allow a group like this to grow." Isn't that what precisely what Obama has done? He has been aware of ISIS/ISIL/whatever for more than 6 months now (calling them the JV in the video) and hasn't done anything much while they have grown.

As war weary as we are, I think at some point we're going to put boots on the ground. We're not going to be able to "mind our own business" our way out of this threat. This ***** thinks he's a modern day Alexander.

Pull all resources from the region. Fortify our own borders to prevent their intrusion. If/when they intrude and attempt to establish any form of their laws on US soil, exterminate with extreme prejudice. Let them do what they wish on their land, allow us to do the same. We don't have to agree or be friends.

You are correct. I should have added; without people demanding ACTION! The world is full of threats. It's nothing short of miraculous that we have had no terrorist attacks in the US since 9-11. At this point, after years of wars, the war drum must be beat slowly. People will only need a little push to get back on board.

Oy vey. At the risk of opening a whole different can of worms, this kinda depends on how you count.

Certainly, nothing on the scale of 9/11.

True. Some incidents of terrorism get called "workplace violence". And the two Boston she-it heads, while definitely Islamic militants, were members of no specific group.

It won't take another smoking pile of rubble in NYC to get public opinion back into war mode. An attack by a couple of guys wearing ISIS t-shirts, with a body count equal to an August Friday night on Chicago's south side, would be enough to for people to beg for another decade of war and a new more restrictive Patriot Act.

Anybody remember the AMC show, Rubicon?:tinfoil: If you missed it, it's worth watching.

    Bob, you should, extremely informative!
I con't second this enough! It is a very interesting watch.

I would like to make a statement that I feel like some people missed, and it could certainly prove to be an interesting development in the IS case. While I agree for the most part about not getting involved, I certainly think something should be done. We may not have to wait long for our involvement.

In the video, someone mentioned the ultimate goal of the IS is essentially world domination. It has also been aforementioned that Turkey is essential in achieving that goal. Turkey is a part of NATO. If/when the IS decide to try and take Turkey, that will give the entire world an excuse to go after these guys....HARD!

That's just an observation I've made. Sure we may not be getting "involved" now, but the moment IS soldiers set foot in a NATO country (Turkey), you can bet the boot of the United States will be put so far up the ass of the IS they will never be able to sit again.

I think some folks were thinking that these videos depict IS in a favorably biased light. They don't. They simply show them in the light of exactly what they are.

Despite the fact that they are relatively close to Turkey, I'd wager they'll go south, rather than north if they continue. They'll take a shot at Jordan then head for Kuwait, the Gulf States and Saudi. The Turks are not worth messing with for them, at this time. They'll need more boots than what they currently have to take that one on. Taking the southern route to Saudi lands them right in the middle of "friendly" sunni territory. It would be easier for them than a push into Turkey, imo.
