I have a handgun chambered in .308 Winchester:D (Savage Stryker).I've been told this is deer legal in Indiana, and I've been told it's not.
    Can anyone clear the air?

    woohoo!

.35 Remington Contender Super 14 is my deer hammer of choice. :draw: Used to have an Encore in 25-06 and .243. Pachmayr grips help tame the bite some. Ported BBL on the .35 makes a big difference.

Gonna resurrect an old thread here, rather than start a new one.

With all the hype for .308 ARs now, if I built a .308 AR pistol and put a (super-cool) sig brace on it, that would make a legal deer gun, right? Is there any maximum barrel length for it to still be a pistol? IE if I put a 16" or 20" barrel on it, that wouldn't affect its status as a pistol, right?

I love my .44 mag, but I just need to be able to shoot FARTHER!

I believe the pistol barrel has to be under 16".

I'm sure a smarter person will be along soon to clarify that with links and such.
Also pass along the current finger to the wind in the sig brace legalities and the amount of guinea pigs who are attempting it.

Idk how the Indiana regs would view a "firearm" rather than a handgun but if building a .308 off of the AR platform, keep it under 26" OAL. Any pistol longer than 26" is no longer considered a pistol but simply a firearm.
