I use Varget with Hornady 55 grain SP for my general AR plinking load.

Varget is also great for .308. Just sayin' OP.

If you are just getting in to reloading, getting a bunch of Varget won't be a mistake.

My Savage 10fp really likes AA2015 with a 55g bullet.
I ran out of 55g bullets and went to a 60g, I couldn't get it to shoot for anything until I switched to BLC2.
My point being, try a few different powders / bullet combos to see what works best for your rifle.

    True, thanks red_zr24x4.

Not wanting to mislead you OP, you might want to try some different powders before buying a "bunch".

I guess I'm just excited to endorse Varget.

Varget works GREAT in 223 over the entire range of bullet weights (probably "best" for 68gr+) though 1. it doesn't meter well, 2. it typically doesn't provide maximum possible velocities, and 3. most accurate loads are often a bit compressed, which isn't a big deal at all but can be unsettling to a new reloader.

I've used 24.0gr Varget over a 75gr Hornady HPBT with CCI-400, and it has shot sub-MOA in a number of different ARs and bolt guns.

Same here regarding Varget. I have been working on a small batch 1k Varget loads tonight. 24 grns with 75, s. Really like this load and has always been a sub moa load from two of my SPR rifles (Douglass and Krieger barrels).

H322. Works for me and I use it for other things, so I can buy by the 8lb and stock fewer powders in my cabinet.

I'll second CFE223 and 8208XBR, both meter well too. My rifle likes Varget too but it doesn't meter as well as the other two in the old RCBS dou-measure I have.

    No you haven't. I hope.....:):

OP, any suitable powder for a gas gun in .223/5.56 will be as accurate as you are. Or better. I like them all. Win748, Varget, RE15, 4895, N135, N140 are all powders I have used by the thousands.
