Jordan Peterson Announces Free Speech Platform ‘Thinkspot’

How long until this one dies from claims of CP, racism, extremism, etc
Well. Hopefully it doesn’t actually turn into that. I had high hopes for gab. A lot of radical conservatives there posting some pretty racist ****. I’m not saying they don’t have a right to. But it does tend to create a platform culture that won’t appeal to a wide range of interests.

I hope Peterson’s endeavor attracts the range of interests that will make it a popular platform. Either way, old media and current social media platforms will do all they can to discredit thinkspot. And for Gab, it doesn’t matter. They’d have discredited it anyway.

That should be vigorously opposed. Even if you censor words, you're not able to censor thoughts in people's minds. I'd rather hear their words so I don't have to wonder about their thoughts.

This is something we both agree on. Not only is it advantageous to have those minds of thoughts exposed, but it’s impossible to change when it goes underground. There are only two ways to change a worldview. Through self-reflection where you challenge your own view, or through conversation where one’s views are challenged by someone else. The former is extremely rare, so that pretty much leaves the latter.

Great film where a man makes the same case...Also how can you change hearts and minds without dialogue?

In a 5-4 decision, SCOTUS holds that NYC's public access channel, MNN, is not a state actor and therefore not subject to the First Amendment. Kavanaugh writes the majority opinion for the conservatives.

Hosting speech by others does not transform private entities (here, a public access channel) into state actors.

Would seem to apply to many current arguments about Twitter, FB, etc.

I think the court got it right.
Part of me agrees, but the dissenters made some good points.

This reminds me of the whole county fair grounds is run by a private entity, so they can ban guns scenario. A government entity sets up a private entity to perform a function. That means that entity is able to skirt rules that would apply to the government entity.

SCOTUS rules that federal ban on registration of “immoral” or “scandalous” trademarks violates the First Amendment, in challenge brought by designer who wanted to register the trademark for his F*CT clothing brand
