I have both a full size 1911, and a SA ultra compact V10. The V10 is ported (see pics below) and is very easy is fire as the felt recoil is very mangable. To me it feels like a full size 9mm.

Very nice, interesting at the least. Does it truly only kick like a 9 though, or is it a mental perception?

...As the Detonics patents are now public domain I'd suggest you find a 1911 that uses the multi-spring captured recoil assembly system rather than the old GI style recoil spring....

Thats interesting...the only multi-spring system I've ever seen was on my Officers factory setup( but not captured).

Got any names, so I can do a search?

It's not so much recoil, For me, it's a question of balance.
A 4 1/4" commander has a different balance point than the 5" government.
What that does is when I am acquiring a target with my Kimber Compact (4") I am usually coming down onto the target.
When I am acquiring a target with the 5" government I am usually coming up to the target.
The other thing is second shots.
Getting back on target with the 5" is MUCH faster and intuitive.
The lighter (alloy frame), shorter Compact takes more practice for double taps.
    That is, for me anyway.

I have had a commander with an aluminum frame,
    An officer with aluminum frame,
and a govn model with an steel frame. The govn with the steel frame is the softest shooting out of the 3. The officers model is the most recoil but its not that bad at all.
