Im thinking of trading in my sig p250 9mm for a 1911 style handgun. ide like opinions from you on you likes and dislikes as a carry pistol. Im hoping to get alot of negative feedback on what to stay away from. Im looking for a 1911 style possibly 9mm.. ide like to stay at a 9mm rather then the 45. i was thinking springfield but i would love to hear from you fellow ingo members...... thnx

If I don't have a pocket pistol, then I carry a Detonics Combat Master, which is a compact 1911 style pistol or Para USA "Carry 9" (also a 1911).

There are not a lot of choices in 9mm 1911 guns.

Para USA makes a couple different models, the Carry 9 uses their LDA trigger which I really really like. They also have more traditional 1911's in 9mm (compact to full size) as well as a compact double stack 9mm 1911 that is very small but holds 12 rounds. Last time I looked they offered 5 or 6 different 9mm 1911 variations. I really like the Para USA guns and have 2 of them that I will carry, both are compact, one is 45 the other is 9mm.

Kimber makes a 9mm Aegis, I have no personal experience with that gun.

    Springfield makes the EMP.

Colt used to make a 9mm, not sure if they still do. It was a Commander size.

I believe Dan Wesson used to make a 9mm, not sure if they still do.

My Para Carry 9. Its a dream to carry as it is a lightweight alloy frame gun, weighs about 24 ounces and the 1911 is an easy shape to carry because its very flat. When I carry a steel 1911 I can feel it on my belt but not so with the lightweight alloy 1911s.

Have both a Springfield GI lightweight commander w/ mods and an SW1911PD. Would carry both and do - primarily IWB. Both are in .45. 1911's are especially easy to carry in single stack capacity. I prefer commander size 1911s. My experience with shorter barrel 1911s is poor from a reliability standpoint and no longer have any.

So far I really like carrying a 1911.

I would say try to find a light weight model, Springfield makes a few as well as a few others. Since you mentioned 9mm, My next 1911 will be a Rock Island Armory 9mm. They are a very reputable brand for a very good price if you don't mind them not being light weight, that I know of yet.

I will add my vote for a lightweight commander sized 1911. I carry .45 instead of 9mm, but my S&W 1911Sc is much easier to carry then either of my steel 1911's. I seem to carry it a little more then half the time over my stainless Kimber.

Like Menensdad said, you do notice the difference of the weight on your belt.

I carry a Kimber Pro Tactical and have been very happy with it. I have a Para LTC in 9mm that is a nice gun, but wouldn't have any finish left if I carried it. As stated above, an alloy frame is nice for carrying. I prefer an alloy 4" for carry, and a steel 5" for range. I prefer fixed sights for carry, and adjustable sights for the range. Some people really like the 3" models, but they're not for me.

I did shoot a friend's EMP. If I was going to carry a 9mm 1911, that would be the one.

Since all of my 1911s are/ were .45 or 10mm the 9mm threw me for loop...

But my advice as others have stated is LIGHTWEIGHT !!! My next carry 1911 will probably be another Kimber but w/ an alloy frame like the CDP series.

1911s are great but they are chunk of steel to carry 8-9 rounds, thats why I suggest the alloy frames.

Let the flamethrowers ignite, but for a carry 9mm I choose the G19....

IF I had it to do tomorrow....I'd like a (genuine) Colt Commander lightweight in.....38 Super. Yes, ammo can be an issue, but it's out there and it's a lot more available than it was a few months back. The Super has a lot more oomph than a 9, but is more comfortable to shoot than a .45. Then there's that bit about the mag having nine round capacity, which is comforting. I kinda have my doubts about a 1911 in 9 mm.....my impression has always been that the gun is designed around the round, and Colt only chambers 1911s for .38 Super and .45. If you really want to shoot 9 mm, there are a lot of other choices than a 1911.

I carry a Springfield Compact 1911 and I love it. So much in fact, that I don't even bother taking my G19 with me anymore. It shoots really straight and is very easy to conceal IMO.

I have to say I love the .38 super. Had a few over the years and my favorite caliber. Ammo was a lot more available in the South West when I lived there. Only reason I don't have one now is ammo availability.

I consolidated ammo to a few popular calibers a few years ago. .38 super and .357 sig was two that had to go. I love them both but I shot a lot then and needed something I could afford to shoot and guns in the same caliber.

    I stuck to .45 ACP, 9mm and .38/357.

I would also recommend checking into a .38 super if you want something smaller then .45 over the 9mm.

I am a fan of the officer framed commander slide length 1911's. Many say that is the perfect carry size for a 1911. A few examples are the dan wesson cco, para ccw, sig c3 or rcs, and kimber compacts among a few others I probably left out, although I am unaware of any chambered in 9mm.

I have a compact Citadel 1911 in .45. One of three different handguns I can carry and the smallest handgun at the time. IWB or small of the back.

I opt for the Kimber Pro Carry in .45 but they make it in a 9MM as well. Commander-size .45 are just too big and hard to conceal.

My avatar is my carry 1911... Kimber Pro CDP II, love it and don't have any issues carrying it. For carrying, like mentioned already I don't carry a full sized. 4" does the trick just fine! Unless I'm wear something super tight, doesn't imprint on my shirts.

If you are wanting a 1911 style of pistol not in a .45 I would also recommend looking into a XD or XDm if you wanna cut weight....

I carry a full sized 1911 IWB springfield most of the time. I always use a good quality (thick)belt when I carry,it seems to help with issues that a most have with a heavier pistol.

As much as I love my 1911, the Sig P250 is an awesome weapon and if you are wanting to stick with 9mm, I can not think of a single good reason to make the switch.
